I was just wondering about how there are so many baby Datnoides around various LFS these days...

I mean not until this past week i have NEVER seen a dat in any LFS around me, and now every LFS across America seems to carry them...

I was just wondering what you guys thought the reason was for the sudden Boost of Datnoides available in the hobby??

I mean i ve seen that most of these are all Indo dats too... I couldnt find a Baby Widebar though if my life depended on it... Whats the reasoning?? Thanks MFK!

thanks for the heads up john. i jus hate paying for shipping, makes the fish over double the price of normal. im gonna wait on these babies here locally to heal up. at 20 a pop, can't complain as long as they make it.

Watch out the LFS that are getting these guys have absolutley no IDEA how to take care of them.. my LFS had a dozen baby indos and out fo the 12 i got 2 and 8 died in the store... they had the bright idea to put 1" baby dats in with 2 " convicts... needless to say i told the LFS to not do that anymore and they agreed. also they were feeding them Brine shrimp to no avail and they didint even try any other foods, they said that some of the dats actually starved, funny cuz the 2 i got i bvrought them home, threw in some bloodworms and i had 2 FAT BELLIED dats 5 mins after they were let out fo the bag... it just shows that LFS tend to not care for ODDBALLS as well as the common cichlid... damn shame too.. i needa open a LFS!!! im serious. thats why im getting my business degree right now!

I was SHOCKEDDDDDDD, i put myself on waiting lists at every LFS within a 45 mile radius of me for any dats and widebars in particular... but all the LFS around me dont know the difference between a Dat and a cichlid... Im just glad i finally got some in my stores here in southern NH!

Also in the same LFS that i got the baby indo dats from they have some 5" thinbars, for 60$ each. and a 11" Indo for 300$(the price is so high cuz the store "Wants to hang onto it for awhile") all of them are just labeled Dats, and the store gives no info on them cuz they have no idea...

i swear i wanna jus go pick up these lil guys, even tho they got ich im sure ill do a better job saving n raising them then my lfs will. he said "dont worry, ill move them to a quarantine tank, bump up the temp, add melafix or aquarium salt and they should be ready by next week". so im hopin for the best cuz its the first time in over a year i've seen them locally.

How much they goin for if u dont mind me askin... anything around 20$ i would get... mine were 19.99 .. even though other people have seen em around for like 15$.... whatever though theyre worth it to me! and i put 100$ on the fact u could treat the fish better then the lfs... the fish need some TLC. go out and get like3 and quarentine them in a 10G for a week or 2. get them on bloodworms and do exactly what you said.. just make sure not to OD with the ich cleansers..GOOD LUCK!

If they live, buy the store out.. that is if they havent killed the remainder by then...

All the indos (the 1"ers) I'm seeing around here are in brackish! It kills me, becuase I would have a bunch of them if I didn't have to worry about the acclimation.

How would you go about an acclimation from brackish to fresh?

(I don't have a brackish tank to slowly lower the salinity either)

None of them are brackish, dont sweat it:chillpill:

I got mine from Fish room plus, and it looks great, i got 2 baby indo dats from a LFS for 20$ each and one just died... Was very sick at the store but i tried ot "save" it...
so i just bought another 5" Thinbar to take its spot..

2-3" widebars.. thats sick!! im just sketched out about ordering offline since all these recent posts of everyone complaining.. i think ill wait til the weather is warmer..
