View Full Version : Black Ghost Knife
Had my new knife for a few days know, and it has got to be to most bizarre fish i've ever owned. its more aggresive then i thought it would be. Its been loving the black worms i've been feeding it. Has anyone had any luck feeding their knifes anything other than worms and small fish?
frozen shrimp. cheap at an asian supermarket.
Fiance has fed her black ghost knife bloodworms for about 6 years now, and nothing else..

Yeah, I've fed all of my knives bloodworms. When they're a little older that can become a little expensive though, so they usually eat market prawns or fish fillets (the kind used for human consumption).

I've been feeding mine mainly freezed dried tubifex worm cubes (hand feeding 2 cubes a day), and supplement (once every few days) with live earthworms, frozen bloodworms and small pieces of raw beef, shrimps or chicken.
It may take awhile for the BGK to eat the dried cubes, since it's probably the least preference. However, it will be a consistent and convenient source of food for us.

My BGK is about 5" now he was 3" 5 wks ago when i bought him. He eats Bloodworm, Fish flakes, Catfish pellets, Cat food (minus the jelly), Cichlid and Carniviore pellets, and i've even seen him nibbling on algae wafers ... he's got one healthy diet! :drool:

If it grew 2" in 5 weeks there's no way that it's a BGK. They grow VERY slowly. A couple of inches a year, at most.

Fed mine bloodworms and small live fish feeders...
good mix for a balanced diet... i don't know if bloodwroms give enough calcium...

hi joel here is one for you try frozen peas, microve to thaw the shel them and microve another 30 seconds our knife loves them
my knife eats mosquito fish and sometime blood worms .

Anyway, now that this thread has been awakened, would a 3" bgk get along in a 75gal with a 1"leopard ctenopoma and a 3" senegal bichir? And what type of pellet should I feed it (if I can get it to accept pellets)? Hikari cichlid gold work?

That stock list is fine. However, I don't know if the knife or the bichir can outgrow the ctenopoma, at which case they would devour him.
Also, knifefish need meaty foods or they will die. A diet of strictly plant matter will kill it. The same applies to your bichir, and although I haven't had any experience with them, ctenopomas probably need meat too. As an additional food, I doubt your knife will refuse any pellet or flake.
