Ok my little guy has been in my care for almost a week, and he started eating fairly well. He's come out of hiding and seem to have claimed a rock for himself. He's a hearty eater, but he's gotten much darker since I put him in the tank. I saw them stress at the IFS when we netted them, they almost go pale whitish/yellow. But now this guy still has his stripes present, but has gotten considerably darker on the back half, he's almost a muddy yellowish grey. Is this a stress thing or do they change color if they get aggressive?

He's not picking on anyone in his 1 inch size, but this guy is tough and holds his own even with the 3" Leopard Ctenopoma. I don't see anyone picking on him alteast in the evenings and during feedings

My 4" widebar is unstable about 90% of the time he will be very dark. Its just luck of the draw, if yours will stay one color or not.

hes just little and prolly intimidated...give him time.. my lil 1 incher always changes colors too... perhaps he's "camoflaging" himself... I think theyre like a fine wine, get better(more stable) with age... ONly time can tell, regardless your lucky to have a lil guy!:headbang2

My thinbar is always black in his cave.. when he comes out for food BRIGHT YELLOW.. mood makes prolly 95% of the color..

Tough to say if they'll be stable until they're bigger I think.
