The largest I ever caught was a 1,089lb female mako shark off the rip at Montauk, Long Island back in 1976. It was the last fish I caught, as a civilian, before going into the navy. It took 8 hours to land it and I couldn't even lift my arms enough to wipe the sweat from my face after it was gaffed and chained to the float boom next to the boat.

Never really took weights but tack on about 6in. to a foot to the fish the lady is holding on the first page, and I've nailed down plenty of steelhead and cohoe out of lake Ontario, Sodus Bay, that were gorgeous.
!4' sixgill shark, 10' barndoor skate, 7+' blue fin tuna, 6'2" sturgeon. 8' wolf eel, 6'+ halibut.
I go fishing a lot, yesterday I caught six fish but the biggest was an 8" brown bullhead.

45 pound pacific halibut. I caught it in alaska which rules!!!!!! :headbang2
I also once caught a 12 pound california halibut on a little kid rod with 5 pound or less test!!! It took me 1/2 hour to bring it in cause i had to keep lettin it run with the line or it would break it instantly. I casted 2 jigs in a row b4 catching it and each cast broke the line!!! Ive caught some good size lingcod too.
a 2" flounder of some sort LOL couldn't even take it home. :(

oddball, what did u do w/ the mako?
The shark was caught on my grandfather's boat. He and my dad basically took over the disposition of the shark. The fins and skin were sold to an oriental processing company, One side was sold to several restaurants. We kept the other side of meat (mako is my 2nd favorite shark to eat). My grandfather kept the jaws until he passed on. My dad got the jaws until my mom ordered it gone. Now, the jaws are back in my possession.

10' Lemon Shark off the Keys last summer along with 4-5' barracuda and some big yellow fin tuna. Was on a charter and the guy next to me caught a 13' tiger shark almost at the same time I caught my Lemon. We didn't keep them though as we didn't want to and we didn't know what to do with them if we had. Kept some cudas and tuna though.
lol yah I just read this after I got notified it was moved, this thing is old haha. Well now the biggest fish I caught is a bowfin -_- and the tasty fish I caught is still a catfish =[

nice catches peeps!
Few big fish caught here in Port Philip Bay - Victoria Australia.
14 foot - 7 gilled shark - Got it next to the boat, cut the shark off because we had no real way of getting it in to an 18 foot boat - Just me and my dad.
23 pound Snapper (Australian Snapper - Red Bream) - Measured 114cm
80 pound stingray in the bay.
1 kilo King George Whiting.
94cm - 2 kilo flathead.

55 kilo thresher shark.
Dad caught a huge gray nurse shark in the bay and released it as it's an endangered species.
My sister years ago caught an 11 pound Australian Salmon in Lakes Entrance, Victoria back on the Eastern Beach - Monster of a Thing.
Brother once caught an 11 kilo Murray Cod.
I also caught a 2 kilo puffer-fish once LOL
Wow, Those flatheads and snapper are HUGE, The largest flat head i've ever caught was 63 cm and the biggest snapper i caught was a little 40cm feller.

The Sturgeon was caught below Swan Falls Dam on the Snake River south of Boise. The Catfish was caught below CJ Strike Dam while trying for sturgeon.. makes for a boring catfish on thos big rods.. The Rainbow, Crappie, and SMB were all caught in Oxbow Reservior about 2 hours NW of Boise, and the LMB was caught in a small pond on the outskirts of Boise. Every one of these fish was caught within 2 hours of my front door. Oh yeah and the Carp was caught this past spring while fishing for crappie on memorial day weekend in Oxbow.. the coolest part was I caught a 20+ lb carp the day before on the same type of jig. heh woot crappie jigging for carp..

The Crappie is a horror story. I was with my family on a weekend trip to Oxbow. This was like 13 years ago now.. and I was getting ready to go in to the military and it was my last trip. I walked down the face of the dam (you could still do that back then) and started casting for smallies. Those are trophy smallmouth waters, catch and release most of the year and a slot limit the rest. Anyway I was having a ball catching 2-4 lb smallies all day.. infact it got to the point I just sat down and didn't fish for awhile.. my poor thumb was tore up from bass lips. Anyway when it started to get close to the time to quit i decided to try casting into a much deeper hole with a bit of an eddy in it. I was using 3 inch watermellon tubes with 1/4oz lead heads.. anyway i let it sink till i figured it had to have hit bottom cause the current made it hard to tell and started a very fast and long jerk retrieve.. boom.. fish on, and man did it fight.. i thought i had a state record smallie. Anyway, I got it to shore and about fell in when I saw it was a crappie.. I'm sure you could hear my whoops all the way back at camp about 3/4's of a mile down river.. anyway I threw him on the stringer and made a mad dash to hit the same hole.. boom.. another.. boom another.. I caught 5 in a row then nothing.. my step dad was in a boat just about 100 yrds from me and came over to see what I was fussing about. He saw one of the fish I caught and yelled it was the biggest he had ever seen. Now coming from him this got my blood racing, he was the best fisherman I knew. Anyway, he picked me up in the boat and we went back down river (so much easier than climbing back up the dam). When we got to camp we measured and weighed them. The biggest was 17 3/4", the smalled just a shade over 15'. We had a digital scale and the big one read out a 3.13.. It read lbs and oz's not the percentage. Anyway, I told him I wanted to take it to the Gateway Store to have them weighed since they had a regulation scale and to turn it in for a state record. He said we'd do it in the morning. The next morning I had to haul the boat so he said he'd stop on the way and have them officially weighed and measured.. He never did, they took them home, snapped a few photos and then ate them. It would have been a record, thought it would have been beat 3 years ago by a 12 yr old kid.. but yeah.. oxbow is an anglers heaven..

Line class (and all other records for that matter) are listed by species.
A 12lb LMB on 2# line, if not a world records its damn close and for sure a state record assuming he caught it in his home state of NJ as its all tackle records is just 10lbs.

when I was fishing off of a charted boat in the Atlantic about 12 miles offshore from St.Augustine 2003 I caught a 34 lb tuna. i think it was a black fin I cant remember.
I can post pics soon. That fish fought soooo hard I it felt like it was 100lbs. And I won the jackpot on the fishing boat. I think it was 125 bucks! We came back the next day and went again.. the jackpot money payed for us! Fun times.

Biggest I've caught was a 5' Tarpon fly fishing in Apalachicola, FL. While we were out there a 6' Bull shark swam right up to the boat we were in, I mean I could've bent down and touched it's head it was so close. I threw everything I could at it but it would not bite :(

I wish I could find the photo!
I caught it on a cut herring near Buoy 10 on the mouth of the Columbia. Biggest fish of the day! :)
I've caught a 25lb salmon on a charter boat (pretty small for that kind of fishing) and a 22lb striped bass out of a river.
Best fish I've ever eaten would have to be Ono. Had it in Hawaii with heineken batter and I've only been able to find it here once at Trader Joes :( It may be called something different, I just haven't figured it out yet.

I have caught some big ones over the years.
3 1/2ft by 3 1/2ft Cownose ray in Punta Gorda, Florida on light line (12-15lb test. I know because earlier one that was fought for 5 mins was tired out and broke off because I reeled too hard.) There is no existing igfa jr record for this species so when I go down next year I'll just have to catch another one. Also on my agenda for the flats next year: Eagle Rays, Stingrays, Seatrout, Redfish, Snook, Jack Crevalle, small Sharks.
I recently landed a 12 1/2 inch Bluefish on a local pier. It was on a "test-cast." No bites all day (except when I set out a baitfish on the surface and each time Terns swooped in and stole them.) I tied on a heavy Luhr-Jensen Krocidile. One the first cast I hooked something that took line for about a second then started coming in. It even jumped.
12 1/2 inch LMB on a creme nightcrawler at Clove Lake.
About 2ft Searobin on the side of a highway in the Rockaways on a Bunker Chunk. Our Ft. Tilden Striper thing was cancelled (we made reservations a week early and we didn't know till we got there.) worse, my friend, an ameutuer fisherman was there. Eagre to start I told my Dad to pull over. He did. I caught the big Searobin (What a fight!) and my friend caught HIS FIRST FISH another big Searobin! (Not as big as mine tho.)
.
(different trip.) A couple Keeper Fluke but all went free. :)
A BIG Black Seabass that my Dad kept because it came up dead.:(

freshwater: 20lb carp.
Saltwater: 3lb bull shark.
heres an 8 ft+ white sturgeon caught in the columbia gorge, thats a 10/0 hook in its mouth! the other pic is the bait i use to catch em. its alot of fun filling coolers full of shad in the summer and then using them to fill coolers full of crabs in the winter and hunting oversize in the columbia. this size sturgeon requires a fight belt and a strong back they love to jump and rip line, anyone who wants to experience fighting the biggest freshwater game fish should plan a trip to the columbia, besides sturgeon you could find yourself into some pretty big salmon and steelies, heck even walleye run these waters!!!!

Finally I found this pic… This was my first surf fishing trip. I caught this bad boy in San Mateo at Coyote point right on the pier. I was using a 12ft ugly stick and braided line (don’t remember the Tess). The bait was squid. It was really cool. The pier was about 8 or so feet up off the water and made up of large bolder like rocks. I was in the water no longer than 10 minutes when my bait running reel when nuts. It was just buzzing and buzzing the line was going and going…
I have never caught anything larger than a 20 inch striped bass so this one caught me off guard. I stood on the top of the bolder and set the hook. The next thing I knew I lost my balance and started to fall into the drink. I grabbed my pole holder and regain my footing, then I brought this guy in. 44 inch leopard shark. I practice catch and release so I let the guy go. Hope you like it.
