before i get one is it possible to keep a juvie in a 50gal and how long would it be ok until i have to get a bigger tank, so i know when i have start saving.
i was thinking of getting one at 3-4'' and growing it up wasnt going to powerfeed it as i find im often to busy to do more than 1 water change a week
any opinions recieved
dats grow slow. Like REALLY slow. It should be fine in a 50 gallon for awhile. I've had mine in a 50 for about 6 months now (he's about 4") and he's fine, barely grown half an inch

cool would i be able to put a tankmate with him if so what?
any other opinions?
anything that won't fit in its mouth. Even then you should be ok. I have my dat housed with a 5 inch snakehead 5 inch ornate bichir and several clown loaches. The loaches are between 2 and 3 inches.

I'd get atleast 3
If you only get 1 you'll just buy more at a later date. I've heard nasty rumours that dats may become very rare soon so I think now is the time to stock up Neo style!

I got 3 young dats, like 1". But if you are putting them with a Bicher, i recommend that they be bigger than their mouth, unless you want a dat to mysteriously disappear and you notice a lump in the bicher's stomach.
