Also, has anybody done a do it your self lighting system by picking up parts form Home depot? Could you place enough halogen lights in a hood to provide adequate lighting for a reef tank? Is there any way to light a reef tank for cheep? I am only talking about 20 gallons.

What corals did you want to keep in the tank?
If you can find lights with enough watts and globes for them in the right spectrum (very hard) you can use alot of different types of lights. You will have trouble finding good globes for them though and the colours still probably wouldnt look as good as buying proper globes made specifically for marine tanks.

That lite could work for some basic corals like mushrooms, but you may wish you had more in the long run. T5 lights are great, but I'd go for a high output fixture. (usally denoted as T5HO) Lights from home depot are not the correct spectrum.

Simple corrals are right up my alley as I don't have a lot of experience yet. In years to come, everything is going to be in my 150 gallon and I'll invest the $1000 for a 72" halide lighting strip.
look for t5ho lights will allow you to grow all corals i am able to get these cheap and ship them too you if you are interested please pm me other lights available
