The name of the man in charge of making fish on the not allowed list is John Cinada. I’m going to be calling him and getting some answers. If you feel that your opinion should be heard then please feel free to give him an idea of what this fish is really like. His phone # is 909-484-0167. I STRONGLY urge you not to put MFK into a position against FWS as this might backfire, however you have the right to ask questions and get answers. I will also invite him to join our community as his knowledge might help us keep fish out from out water. If it weren’t for the hobby many sp of fish would be extinct…. Check out AUG/SEP TFH magazine to read more on that….

I am guessing that he is the senator that pushed to put through legislation to make stingrays illegal in cali. and that is not a bad thing to do... calling your senator and telling him how you feel that is...

Telling your Senator how you feel about it is a bad thing? I don't see why. The fact that they're illegal in Cali is a bit ridiculous. :screwy:

Tyson~ this is not a personal attack. This is means to getting politics to change things for the better. If worse comes to worse why could someone with a permit not be able to have one? Or even better yet, anyone else. Who has called let me know. the more the better and the more people that call the more likely he is to change that law. He is the specialist that determins what sp would be dangerious and such.... he has to make things illegal so he can justify his job! :naughty:

To me, this isn't the senators fault but hobbyists.

If every single hobbyist was responsible why would he be afraid to allow FW rays to be kept in home aquaria?

This is a safety issue and not something he is doing for the sake of it. Do you want some kid to get stung while swimming in a lake or pond?

A single bad egg among hobbyists will kill the benefits for the entire community.

This is my opinion

No takers on defending the fish and wildlife yet I have sent 3PM to mods to put the phone # back up and NADA. I would expect a little more HOOORAH then this. It's not like it was hard to find out who was in charge. I called two people, one told me they were illegal because someone put an alligator into a pond.... but to his recolection never a stingray... so I told him to give me somebody that had an ansewr or that they had no president to make them illegal. I got a phone # and called. Lady had no idea that there were even such a thing as freshwater stingrays... then told me a story about how some guy put an alligator in a pond. WTF  thats nice so you don't have ANY records of FW rays in the wild.... not to her recolection so i got the number to the board director specialist who determins whats ok and whats not. It's funnie if questions aren't asked ansewrs don't just pop out and say why.
PS if i hear one more freaking alligator in a pond story causeing the FW stingray to be put on the list I'm going to go :swear: postal

from what i have read and/or gathered in the past, the most effective way to affect change in situations such as this is a well-organized, concerted effort from a "grouping" of people working together in established ways.... NOT a few individuals "bombing" a persons answering machine or voicemail and pissing said individual off!!!!

just a thought....!!!

Dear All

From what i know, the humble FW Sting Rays has been Banned from export in BRAZIL and several other South American countires.
It is now under the spotlight of the SINGAPORE authorities & i believe others..

Their population are depleting fast as their reproduction rate is low.

Tyson... thats news to me. Leo's and tigers are rare. Leos by far the rarest. Funnie thing is that latest I heard at Aquaria China 2004 September was they weren't even in the startup for putting rays on the list. Not to mention the fact that we got offered over 10,000 rays last year from our farmers in Peru. I've got the article here if you would like me to post it. Where did you get the idea they were not going to be exported? :headbang2

DW has a point. I had to yell at miles for posting pictures of our facility...as much as I would LOVE to show you how these rays are farmed and kept... It could mean all my tanks are poisoned or one of my employees lives. Thanks for clearing up those rays over there DW, The article i read was on the response of Leo's and tigers being the cause of concern but all the studies they had shown was just like you said.... not rare just in some remote are of B.F.E.
BTW I don't know about Brazil but Peru and a Holiday every week it seems like. Whenever my partner tells me it's a holiday I ask "Saint what?" :screwy:

I'm going to call this guy and personally invite him to this forum. If you still want to call please leave a professional message

California DOES NOT have the same climate as TEXAS !!!!! What are you smokin!!! CHRONIC???? Texas is way hotter, more humid, and just disgusting weather. California, it's 11:12 AM right now, and it's a nice 72 degrees with a light breeze coming from the ocean. I am 15 minutes from the coast by the way. Anyway, stingrays won't survive the winter water weather in Southern California. It's too damn cold. Plecos are tougher than stingrays and when I placed a 12" regular Pleco in my 200 gallon pond outside, it died in four days ....and that is in December. The winter season does not really start until aroun January when the water gets really cold, and the lakes and rivers are stocked with trout instead of your regular warm water fish, i.e., catfish, and bass.

What's his cellphone and address again? or How can I find this info out again? I'm gonna pick a fight with him.

Give me 24 hours to contact him. If he doesn't reply I will post that phone number again. I argue with people on a global scale. Best way to win is have them say it. how do you do that..... just ask questions leading them to the ansewr.
question #1 why are rays illegal?
ans- some guy left an alligato in a pond
queston #2 have you ever had any accounts of FW stingrays in ponds?
ans- not to my recolection
or yes we have ( highly unlikely)

Question #3 What are the posablities of a ray makeing it alive long enough to reproduce in the wild or it's capability of staying alive longer then a week without the intervention of a hobbiest?

whatever the ansewr you can always ask another question until they ansewr your real question.... so when will stingrays be legalized in Fornia?

Waldo

Surprise. This guy still hasn't contacted me... I'm sure he will though. Do I make people squirm or is it just government workers?

hey WTF ever happened with this thread, it just sorta died! Im in Fl where stingrays are also illegal, and if anyone can get me number for our senator or whatever I would definitley call it. I see many californians ask about stingrays and such on many sites and to only get 3 pages of response is kinda pathetic.

-PS if this topic was closed or something please disregard my comments
