I just bought a 7" ornate for $20, and he's currently housed with an established community of a 6" Malawi eyebiter, a 4" pleco, four 4" pangasius, a 3" Raphael cat, a 5" USD cat, two 3" bumblebee cats, and a 5" featherfin syno. Is my new ornate gonna have a problem with any of these tankmates? Right now, he's just being shy and swimming in the sidelines, but no one is bothering him. Any suggestions or comments?:nilly:

hi ya your ornate should get on fine with your other fish just keep an eye on the pangasius these get huge like 3 feet or more and need thousands of gallons

Keep an eye on the pleco too. There is a chance that it will suck on the ornate. That's what happen to my ornate a while back. The pleco sucks all the slimy coat from my ornate and it starts bleeding. The pleco was gone right away:nilly:

Ok. The pleco is good as gone!

I would watch your Bichir. Mine killed my baby red-tailed catfish, so I moved him and yesterday he killed a stingray of mine. He bit off his eye, and bit him a bunch on the head.

Your Bumble Bee Cats might be on the menu for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

How long before my ornate poses a danger to my bumblebees? Right now, although they're almost the same length, the bumblebees are twice stockier than the ornate?

So are the bumble bee 3" or 7"? Sooner or later, most of the tank mates need to be moved, OR the ornate will move them for you :D
Ornate are very fun to watch. They are like garbage can:headbang2

an USD cat and a featherfin cat that are 5in.? there are two different kinds of USD catfish, theres the USD cat fish which only gets 4in. max, and theres the featherfin catfish which also swims up-side down but it gets 8in.. so i think you have two featherfin cats or the one you think is a featherfin is actually something else. heres a pic of one of my two USD cats...

i think you failed to mention how big your tank is. if its not big enough for the adult sizes of your fish, you might want to move the ornate to a new tank so as not to disturb your existing set.

My USD cat is grayish-black all over (no faint spots like adult featherfins), is a carnivore, and is a dedicated USD - unlike the featherfin who often times swims right side up. I'll try to post a pic later.

Attached are 2 photos of my USD cat, who I realize is more like 6-1/2" now. He stays on top, right at the drain elbow of my overflow. My ornate meanwhile stays at the bottom among slate caves. Tank height is 24". Can anyone tell me the scientific name of my USD cat? :nilly:

My bumblebees should be around 5", not 3" as I previously said. They're quite hard to measure accurately since they're always hiding in slate caves. The ornate, although at 7", is "long and thin" compared to the bumblebees, who are "short and fat". That means that subjectively speaking, the bumblebees are "larger" as of now.
