Not neccessairly, The bigger the tank, the faster they grow, the deeper the tank the bigger they get...
Look how deep the rivers are, thats how they get so big, and that their water is fresh every day....
Most Red Belly Piranhas are from 9-12" but some get bigger and some get smaller.

does diet matter? i fed mine feeders until they got sick one time. since then ive fed jumbomin pellets. they got huge off of them. right around 9 inches at two years old in a 75 gallon tank
IMO Variety is best, if by feeders you mean goldfish they are poor in nutrition as well as high in copper.

i used rosy reds before, that was just not knowing any better
If it was me i'd stay off the feeders altogether.
More harm than they're good for... It's just for showing off anyway.
Hiya Kev82, welcome to the site. I'm a fan of live food, I think it is worth the hassle, that doesn't mean I'm right.

HOW BIG DO RBP GET??????????
any P over 8'' is a winner in my book most people kill them before they have a chance to reach true giant size but if your lucky enough and work hard at keeping them happy and healthy u can really have something to be proud of . I've grown 2 RBP's over 12'' and 1 13''
more water changes than I care to think about and the local butcher sends me a Xmas card every year thanking me for being his #1 customer. i'll post a picture of my 16'' rhom in about 10 years its 9'' now. Does size really Matter?
Hiya teethkeeper welcome to MFK, my 9" rpbs were more fun than the big one, they were competitive feeders and the 14" lived alone.

id say they average 8"-10". it is rare to see a true 12" red. in fact i have never seen a true 12". and i've kept the biggest of big. i would like to see pics of this 14" and especially the 16" i feel its almost impossible. unless your talking the ternetzi variant.

The 14' that I had was given to me as an adult and in the 4 years I kept it I MAY have gotten a 1/2" longer but I dought it, It did get fatter. It was a lazy fish and had been kept alone all it's life. I was told it was a nat and except for size it looked just like my smaller ones, it also matched the ones around that size that were displayed at the Stienhart Aquarium in San Francisco.
It died overnight during a cold winter power outage back in 86 or 87 so I ate it.
By the way, welcome to MFK.

I like feeding mine feeder guppys is that a good source of food ? They main diet consists of bloodworms and the guppys are just for a treat.
You want to vary the diet, little ones will take brine shrimp, larger ones will eat crayfish, glass shrimp, fairy shrimp, etc. Most will eat small earth worms, some will eat superworms. crickets are good, and you can sneak floating pellets in while they are eating crickets or grasshoppers.
It might not be a great idea but mine got fros and wild caght fish, the fish were usually around the same size as any member of the shoal and for the singleton about 3", they also got purged in a tub of 2tsp/gal salt water for a week before feeding, I fed the ones over 6" everyother day. the more variety they get the more likely you are to avoid any dietary deficiencies.
if feed mine raw uncooked shell on shrimp, beef hart and large pond comets the odd time should i feed them any vegitable matter or not? And my p's dont seem to like any pellets do u guys know of a reputable brand od pellets that are vertualy erresistable to rbp's?
