Is that an african? Very cool either way, always wanted one but I'm a cheap bastard. Are you going to let him mudball?
Jay R.

mudball?
froggyman

mudball?
when the soil drys out they dig down into it and makes a mucus coccon to keep it moist tilll more rains come. BTW the neat thing about lung fish is that you dont have to move the fish when you do a 100 percent water change

You got it, To mudball you need deep sand/mud bottom, 12"+ and you raise temp. and lower water over a week, turn off filters at same time. I heard of this from a fishkeeper @ Stienhart Aquarium in san fran. keep the ball in a dry closet for a couple of months. soak in rain water til ball breaks up and put in tank, feed well. I saw a NGSexp. vid that showed them crawling out of mud built walls during 1st heavey rain.

I'll tell my bud, but i see no point to it. more interesting in it's tank than it is in a mud ball...

I own Willie. He is very active at night but he has started doing some weird stuff. He has started pulling gravel from the bottom of the tank into his mouth. From what I can tell most of it pops out of the gill slits (if that is what you call them on lungfish). Is this normal? I can't find any info on this at all.

guyz,
what's your current tank size for this specimen?
i've read that the minimum tank size will be 150gals.
i'm planning to keep one at 75gals.
Jay R.

quite slow growth that, but i suppose that there will be some individuals that never reach the 'average' size ... I have a lungfish that is less than 2 years and is already 30" ...
I actually keep mine in a community tank ...
cool name by the way

I remembered why I havent seen a lung fish here... their illigal in wisconsin! people keep asking me to get them for them and I'm like NO! People release them into lakes around here... and they have no natural preditors... can't they live outside of water?
Oddball

They may live outside, in Wisconsin, for a couple of months in the summer but, they'll die when the thermometer drops. LFs have the ability to aestivate or go into suspended animation. However, this hibernation state is not the total shutdown of body processes. LFs maintain an internal moisture level of 1% and their heart continues to beat a few times a day while they're coccooned. Freeze them completely and they're goners.
