View Full Version : weird SW aquatic insect???

I do not have pics but they came in as a hitch hiker with some of my algae plants they look just like a walking stick but are about 3/4" long very thin and look exactly like walking sticks... there was also a ton of scuds but I dont care about those... I want to know what the heck those walking stick things are before I put the algae plant into my refugium

i bought a handfiul of weeds for the fuge the other day and had one in there as well, no idea what it was. i just threw it in the fuge....cant hurt too much.

We caught them in a collecting trip for one of my marine bio classes in college. The prof said they were a certain type of amphipod, dont remember the exact name, but they blend in with the seagrass and eat plankton. Not harmful, no need to worry.

Probably a Caprellid amphipod, a predator of other small critters.

It could even be a sea spider. Really hard to say with no picks lots of buggy looking critters.
