My buddies on a concrete slab so he's doing a 8x3x3 foot tank...about 500 gallons or so.....mine 6x2x2 foot about 180 gallons....but am upstairs next to the corner of the house. Mei, once we start the project, I'll document it with pix and make a thread in the DIY.

Ya I'm with that problem. Figure a 300 gallon tank is gonna weigh somewhere around 3000 pounds. I am not gonna put that anywhere in my house, except where I have slab on grade. Most people can do this in there basement, my basement has a wood subfloor just like the rest of the house(I actually have a 30" crawl space under my basement. So what I am doing is extending my office into my garage were I will be able to place my 300g or 370g tank on a concrete slab and a foundation wall. I'm hoping for this to happen by the end of summer.

Here's a pic of my 120g tank,

well, I ended up only switching to a 75, but should have the 150 within 2 weeks. So everything is a bit of a mess, but I'll snap a couple, it looks a lot like the other, taller. (bummer) so my new unveiling of my 150 is planned on being done and photographed within a month, I'm so excited. Thanks for asking, I'll get some photos the next time the sunlight is right, it really makes a difference in the pictures, even inside.

I'm planning on trying all natural real bamboo, and a zen look, it's coming together pretty well. Just got a new powerhead and ordered a second canister filter. We're going to custom build the stand.

yeah, right now I have the bottom with 3 different small zones of sustrate options I'm trying to change very slowly but trying a different quart of this type vs that type. I am amazed at how different each sustrate and it's color and texture change so much under water. Tip: rinse the heck out of it and soak it first.

I'm going with a natural med sand to pea gravel (1/2 between sand and gravel, from a beach) lighter shade for the bottom of my 150. Then I'm going to build up around bamboo in the gravelly parts, so it will look natural and tropical.

if your looking for a filtration system like "NOVO"'s wet/dry trickle fiter, then you should check out the LFS "Coral Fish" in Aiea, they got some there...$300 though! ...and only 2 chambers :( 1) for bio balls and 2) for what ever you wish.... so i think ill be making my own :D ...check them out to see it in person...

go to Pets Plus on Ward Ave or Moanalua Pets in the stadium shopping mall. I think Myles (the owner) is gonna make a tank order pretty soon he usually brings in atleast 2 180g tanks. I asked Coral Fish before and they said they won't bring in anything over 150g. same goes for Pets Discount (rip off) Warehouse.

Pets Plus and Moanalua Pets. I don't know if Kalihi Pets would bring in a 180g.
if you need a large tank now Coral Fish usually always stocks 125g and 150g tanks. also there's Pets and Plants and Modern Pets for marine fish. there freshwater is ok. don't bother with the others you will just be wasting your time.

The tank is a 240. The aro is now about 22". I don't remember exactly how big it was in that photo, but over a foot I'm sure of. The aro, along with fish from a couple of other tanks, will go into a new, custom 12' tank when our new house is built. Just don't have the room for it now, nor the concrete floor to set a tank that big on. :grinno:

I would love to have that tank in my house but how the heck did you get that through your door? Then again 32 inches is just right.....

Thanks, My big RTG was from my first comm attempts and has always been good with other aor even the smaller guys, if sombody else is getting a little to aggressive he'll give them a bonk with his nose, and set them straight. Sometimes they chase each other around the tank a little but never attack, it's like there playing - as weird as that sounds. Your tank is......amazing......I remember seeing pics of it a long time ago and new one day I had to have one......it;s truley inspirational. Are you still planning on building a bigger tank?

Great thread, and great pics everyone:grinno: .

Just putting a pic of the grow-out tank for 6 Asian RTG. Main tank about 600litres. DIY over a weekend with glass 12mm supplied by the local glass shop. Polished Pencil edges so was easier to glue with silicon over a week end with some helpers.

Main tank 70"x32"x24" and Sump 36"x32x24 total length 106"x32"x24"

You can see the metal frame which will be used to seat a much larger glass tank on top of the current growout tank. That will go to a new house when it 's ready. The glass panels are sitting on the frame you can just see the edges from the pic. Size of that one will be L112"xW39" by H30" when glued together.

Filter & Sump was part of the tank 3 compartments with jap mat. middle section with broken coral (Soaked in Bleach first then cleaned) Water pumped thru a canister box in line with the sump.

The rtgs will probable be here till they reach 15" when i will transfer them to a ground concrete pond much much larger.

Thanks to all the other posters for the pics. Great to see so many different setups, ideas, combinations. simply awesome. keep them coming. please ....

Our 9-month old Jardini Arowana (Eragon) with his pals, the Marbled Gobies (Soony and Hocker). They're all mean, but they get along with each other. Who's to argue?

I still can't get over how fast the Jardini has grown. He's getting thicker by the day... When we got him, he was only 4 inches. Now he's a foot long, and growing like a weed!! His colors are gorgeous, too.

What type of filtration should I use on my aros tank I have a 125 can anyone help me?

You can go with an external Canister filter, if you do, you need a flow rate minimum of 3 times your total gallons per hour. So for a 125, so with some breathing room, I'd look for 400 gal per hr. For Arowana's, remove all charcoal. Peat is nice for Aros, ceramic rings, ammo chips (prime with salt).

I'd also run a dual biowheel at the other end, you can cut out the charcoal but it works well to do a bit of a better overall job. Don't wash the spinners on the bio wheel.

I strongly, strongly suggest seeding a new filter, unless you have a very well established tank. Arowana's require very clean water. They like o2, be sure you have a couple sources of bubbles, like an air stone and a bubble curtain.

Be sure you have a freshwater Master Chemical Test kit and use it, a lot, at first, you need to learn this, it's easy, but vital. You can't have Ammonia or your Aro will die.

There's also the option of wet/dry bio ball drip filtration, I am not personally familiar enough with them to give advice.

Wish you good luck. Fluval is a good brand for canisters. Don't be afraid of the Chemical Test kit, It's really easy. Also, use aquarium salt as directed for a freshwater setup.

Aro's love Ketapang or Almond Tree Leaves as well, it really mellows them out and stops the Aro freak out headbanger incidents!

Good luck-Mei

Wow, amazing tanks and fish everyone!

I'm the new owner of a 3.5 inch baby silver aro who is currently in a 25 gallon tank. Would it be too stressful to put him in a 50 right away? Or should I wait until he's a bit bigger?

I have an empty 90....maybe I should just put Worm in there????
