Hi, I just bought a new queen arabesque plec, and I was wondering what to feed it besides algae wafers, and lettuce. Do they need driftwood? What should their diet primarily consist of? How large will they get? This is an amazing species of plec, and I am thrilled with my new purchase. He's about 2 1/2 inches long. Right now he is in a 29g, and I was planning on housing him there for a while. I'll get pics up tomorrow. Any help is much appreciated.

They don't eat veggies. Go after a good meaty diet. Driftwood is not needed. They max at around 3.5-4"

Good meaty diet, so like, sinking carnivore pellets? etc? Maybe raw chicken? (only asking b/c my O's eat it)

I dont know about the chicken but the carnivore pellets worked for me and krill attached to a rock or spoon.

Ok, I'll hold off on the chicken. How do you attach the krill to a spoon? Just tie it with something?

Any meaty food will work well. I would use the sinking stuff from hikari that has the corydoras julii on the front. I found that my hypans like the sinking disks to the sinking pellets.

Vegetables bring balance and much needed nutrition to all loricariidae diets. If your fish will accept them, be sure to feed veggies. Try some more protein-bound things first, such as fava beans. All my hypancistrines have been particularly fond of those as well as peas, and will usually take zuchinni and cucumber+fruits.

Are these plecs typically hardy? Active? My friend bought one, and it died overnight. He seems to think mine won't last much longer.

what did he hav in with it?
what do you?
