could a dat be kept its whole life in a tank that is 48" long, 18" wide and 22" tall?

I would think so. I hear Dats rarely break 15" in captivity and even that takes a long time.

dats grow very slowly so no worries about upgrading tank for a long while, the only problem is once you get one, then you will want more and more and thats when the tank gets to small and its time to upgrade. :headbang2

I am starting to get that way now. The dat is my favorite fish and I can see getting another.

I've heard that once you go dat, you never go back.
Expect to be buying more dats and a bigger tank when they start to getting bigger.

dat are really slow growing, they will slow down once they hit 10", and the largest i seen is just 15" .

i kept one in a 4x20x20 for quite some time and it was ok.

my 3 inch wide bar is still 3 inches after 3 months. that is how slow they grow. i am feeding him minnows, market shrimp and live blood worms.
