Here is a picture of my setup. Please let me know what you think I should put in it. I was thinking a couple clowns, a small blue hippo tang and maybe a dwarf coral beauty angel.

I thought about getting a flame hawkfish because a friend has one and it is cool as hell. I just forgot to put it on the list.

Usually young hippo tangs dont do well. They wil also get way too big for a 55. Hope you plan on going larger.

you could get a leoow tang instead. or a purple but that might be stretching it. what are you doing for inverts? i would say make a cave and get a soldier fish. the dusky and blackbars are cool!

I have a 150 gal in storage but I wanted to try it on a smaller scale first. Then go bigger with the 150.

that's supposed to say yellow tang.
it'd be easiser to start the 150 but more $$$

i agree on the flame hawk...also maybe a decoy scorpion for added fun considering there cheap(down hear at least) and the dont get big so there no likely to eat or bother any of the other fish your looking to get so far...BTW what kind of light are you using to keep that live rock...alive :)

The light is a Coralife compact florecent with a 96 watt 10,000k bulb and and 96 watt Actinic bulb.

The light has nothin to do with the rock being alive on the inside. You could have no lights and have a healthy SW tank.

A couple clowns (a must with little kids) and the rest is open to sugestions I only want one maybe two more fish.

by clown fish you mean the nemo ones right, ocellarus's? if you're gonna i would sugest just getting true perculas. they're a little bit more expensive but in my mind worth it.
i would skip the hippo tang. even tho they get to the right size for this kinda tank they swim around way too much and need more space.
i would get;
a couple of chromis
some firefish
a coral beauty ot flame angel
yellow tang
clown gobies
scissortail gobies
zebra lined dartfish
jawfish
alot of options 55 is a good size for some of the smaller marine fish.
what are you gonna do for inverts?
you've got adaquite lighting for some lower light corals and anenomes.

Right now I have about 8 hermit crabs about 10 snails a Sally Lightfoot crab and a coral banded shrimp oh yeah and the mystery conch. What else and how many would you suggest.

This may sound like a dumb question but I have to ask. How hard is it to keep sea horses alive? We went to the zoo and the kids now want one but I have heard they are a waste of money bacause the die easily.

that and they are hard to feed, in some places you need a permit to have them and i just dont think that they are that interesting, they usually just sit there. i'd say get a dwarf lion but if the kids are gonna be sticking there hands in there ***etabowtit!

No hands in the tank they know that. Would a dwarf be ok I would love to put a Lion in there but I wasn't sure

yeah dwarfs are fine but may eat your clowns if they aren't the bigger species. that a yellow tang and like a coral or flame angel would be great.
you could get a sand goby or damsel (like a domino or other large damsel) and put those in early so that they can grow before the lion is added so that he wont eat them.

a lion would definately eat like perculas or occelarus. if you went with like clarkii, sebae, or maroons they would be safe as they got bigger.
as with larger damsels like dominos and sergent majors.

Ok here is the list 3 chromis, 2 clowns (nemo), 1 blue damsel and 1 flame hawkfish. Do you think it would be ok to put in a coral beauty angel or would that be to much? I want a bubble tip for the clowns how long should I wait to put that in?

Personally, if it was me, i would drop the damsel, they can get very territorial and agressive and have the coral beauty instead...The flame hawkfish is sucha cool fish, but, they do have a little tendancy to be slightly agressive to other bottom dwellers in the tank...
If you serious about a nem, i would wait at least a good 8 or 9 months miniumum to give the tank some chance to mature. Depending on the nem you want to buy, i would suggest you are going to need a lot more lighting power than what you currently have ( if am reading one of your previou posts correctly )..
These are just my opinions based on experience of course...

I think you should go with a d. lion. but whatever you go with you gotta post some pics when they are in the tank!!!

if you do the occelarus i think they will get eaten. ther's an old saying with mixing lions "don't put it with anything that you'd cry about losing"
the coral beauty would be fine and i too would also try to lose the damsel, they can be SO much trouble.

Nice looking live rock...good colors...Anyways for fish definatly go with clowns and my suggestion is keep it small...no tangs go with like purple pseudichromises (spelled wrong) royal gramma's...etc keep it small and colorful in a tank like that...
