Its very realistic and happens frequently. You will face jail time and your aro
confiscated if you do get caught. In my opinion its not worth to take the risk.
Im not going to jail for any fish, even if i am a fish nut.

I had a couple of Red SHs 10 years ago. I miss them, but don't have a large spare tank or the space to set one up for another. My kids need to hurry growing up and moving out so I can appropriate their rooms for da fishes :evil_lol:

3) Aurantimaculata, Cobra, & Red Snakeheads

that's all I want, except swap the auran for an argus.
reason? I may not have a permanent residence in a year or two, and 2nd and just as importantly, i dont have a big enough tank for them YET!

but eventually, it WILL happen. Prolly 20 years or so tho. Maybe only 10, but im not holding my breath.

There's so many cool fish I want but cant get here.
1. stingrays
2. peacock bass
3. any piranhas
4 a lot of cool, large CA/SA cichlids (umbie, dovii, festae etc etc)
5. tiger shovenose
Perhaps a shorter list would be what we can keep/get.....

thesnakeguru
05-06-2005, 11:34 PM
I would get a paddle fish if I could, but thier sheer size and the constant supply of live plankton would make it impossiable or near impossiable to keep.... well unless I win the lottery anytime soon!

I'm a lucky guy to be living elsewhere where I have access to most of the fishes listed here.

All sorts of arowana, stingrays, cichla temensis, araipaima etc.

But one thing is that piranhas are banned here, and that makes me a bit pissed because I would love to have them.

Kieranuk
05-07-2005, 10:01 AM
In the UK no tropical fish are banned. The only one which is not allowed to be brought in is the L46 zebra pleco due to it beign nearly extinct but if any shops buy from local breeders they can sell them.

Yeah, Jansens (a big pet chain here who do a lot of 'exotic' stuff) imported about 8-10 of them a while ago. NZ$2500 for gold and $4900 for red-tailed gold!!! Beautiful fish, but for that price I wont be owning one. They sold a few really quickly but were stuck with a couple for some time. Eventually the price came down a bit (well they started offering free 5-6' tanks with the fish up to the value of $1200 or something like that). They have one left in a display tank with a large senegal birchir, so at least I'll be able to watch one grow up (its about 12-14" now).
Also, while on the topic of overpriced pets, they have recently started selling australian bearded dragons, for NZ$1600 each!!!! Apparantly theyre about US$20 and very common in the states......

Yeah thats just how it is in the fish hobby. At least we get stingrays here int the US and all the Piranhas that you can want ( in some states anyways). Bearded dragons are about 40 bucks here at my local petstore.

Right now the fish I want the most is the cichla orinocensis.

Followed by a PERFECT wide bar.

I would want a

Roosterfish
Hogfish
Sea Raven
Goosefish
Toadfish
Atlantic Wolfish
Lionfish

I have no clue how to obtain some of them and no where to put them...and for the lionfish, my mom wont let me buy one, she says its to dangerous. Of course she says this after she saw it on the discover channel as having one of the most powerful toxins or something.

*It is just coincidence that they are all animal named*, I would like to have these because they are out of the ordinary, they don't follow the regular, as a couple fins and a body. They have decorative fins or...well they are just cool.

All of the them at once, (I'll settle for the fresh water ones) at one time in biotopes.

You should be able to get those if you really want em. Are they hard to find down under?

A perfect wide bar is pretty hard to find.. why not settle for a NIICE Widebar instead?

That is a saltwater "sheepshead" Lives in about 40 to 100 feet of water. Very common in the California Coastline.

Saltwater no, but freshwater, I would love an aro in about a 150g tank. I have a 75g now. The nastiest fish I ever had was a 2' snakehead. That was a long time ago, but he once ate a red belly pacu that i thought would be fine in the tank. I can remember the pet store I bought it off of had a display tank with one in it. It might have been around 180g tank or something but I can remember this snakehead swimming along the top moving real slow, it almost looked like a mechanical monster or something. I don't really know how big it was but I can remember the guy told me that he would feed it rats! Nasty stuff.
