ok, this started out with a small hole in the fins, and has since develped into three small holes, in a matter of several months.

i think it is obvious it came from poor water , and lack of cleaning, water filteration, and changing. but, i never really know.

but, here is a photo, but here is a FYI about the photo:

* it's not my fish. i got the photo off the net, and edited in the HOLES with photoshop. but it basically looks like this, but imagine it with a striata instead.

i'm thinking fish rot?

If it is fin rot use several succesive water change and good house cleaning of the tank followed by a med designed to cure velvet like acriflavine.

50% once or twice a week for a week just after a gravel vaccing for a month won't hurt. Is that an actual hole, in the pic it looks like a fluke.

That's exactly what i was thinking??... that's why I asked for an actual picture. Beause most of the time, snakeheads are normally usually prone to parasites/diseases. Make the best judgement that you possibly can on what it exactly is, before treating... you don't want to treat your fish w/ the wrong kind of medication... it just may make matters worse. perhaps even fatal??

If going to do daily water changes, I probably would'nt do more than 25-30% tops. Water parameters fluctuating may cause your sh to stress. Also make sure the water is conditioned & aged before adding. GL and keep us all posted on it's condition. :headbang2

I just read it can be caused by dietary deficiencies, vary the diet a little, if you use feeders gut load them first. Def not ick, fin rot usually shows red streaks at the fin base and rots from the edges inward, not fin base out.

You feed them a mix of high quaity food including algae flakes, you can dust the food with fish vitamins also, same goes for crickets. If you are feeding pellets you could try varying the brand and dosing them with garlic. here is a pic of fin rot
