Does anyone have any sugguestions as to what spectrums of lighting are better for skittish fishes (as to make them feel more comfy), in a fish only tank? I was reading an article in TFH that indicated certain catfishes are less stressed under blue spectrum lighting, while green produced more stress.

Just curious... as I use to have reef tanks - so i'd just blast it with as much wattage as possible, and usually in the 10-14K spectrum range.

go for lower watt 50/50 bulbs.... should work just fine

is this advise for a tank that's already set up or are you just researching?
it depends on what strata the fish comes from.
like, i had a basslet that didn't come out of his cave for like a week and i used just the actinic and moon lights for a while and then turned the 10000K on a little while at a time, and then he was out in full light in like 2-3 days.

Thanks you guys for the input! I'm actually just researching and looking for info out of interest, as well as for practical use. I noticed that people use all different sorts of lights, some functional and others purely for aesthetics on their fish tanks. I was curious as to see if there are any particular spectrum that work better to keep fishes calm, other than just subduing the light with a mesh or some plastic plants. Kind of like when some classrooms and hospitals are painted w/ pastel colors because it is suppose to keep us calm, vs. if the walls were bright yellow and lime green. ;)

As applied to me however, it would be for my 210 gal set up, which is still not yet occupied. Going in the tank - Black Aro and Lima SN, which are pretty skittish under lights.
