I had 3 angels in a tank with tetras and other small fish. They were fine untill one day 2 of them decided to pair up and try breeding. They killed most of the other small fish in the tank that were too slow when that happened.

Thank you for ya'lls helpful advice, I would never have thought that the angels would eat the tetras.

they won't if they are big enough... you can try black neon's, and lemon tetras, monk tetras, or cardinal tetras... these are the commmon names that I know them by you should also try (tanichthys Albonubes) the new white cloud...
I have grown out angels until they mated in 55g-150g tanks in tetra communities no problems.

My tanks were heavily planted and I'm sure they ate a few little guys but not that many and I never new how many I had in there in the first place. Everyone got lots of live food anyway so the angels did not pick on things, I alternated tubifex and brineshrimp pretty much daily.

Howdy,
It completely depends on the kind of tetras. Neons are the natural food of adult angel fish. However, as stated before, larger tetra like lemons or serpae are no problem. And it also depends on the size of tank. I don't recommend keeping angel fish in anything smaller than 50 gal. When they decide to breed, this might even be too small (as Sohfatfish documented above, problems arise).
Generally: Go for it, they are great tank mates.

I would get the angels mainly wild dumerilli , at the size of a quarter, 6 months or so later when they were near 4" they would start pairing up. as soon as they bred I would sell the mated pairs. I got them at around a dollar each and got $15-20 in store credit each in mated pairs. The tetras were a wide mix.

Talk about rehashing an old topic, but got to love members that do their research.

Angels can and will eat smaller tetras. your best bet is to do deep body tetra's like Bleeding hearts.
livebearers (guppys, platys, mollies) and angels are a popular combo as the angels keep the livebearer population in check and the angels are supplied occasional live food
consider this combo

Can I keep a pair of angels with some rosy barbs, or will they nip?

I use Orange Vio Rio tetras they stay kinda of medium, around 2in but they look good with angels, i will eventually have about 12 of them in with my 2 angels in a 55g with a few other fish.

yeah sure but be aware and keep a close eye...angels are fin nippers and at times can be very territorial and aggressive....keep larger tetras with them like rummy nose and harlequin tetras...cardinals should do alright to...but yeh make sure there's plenty of small hidey holes and dense plant cover n they'll be fine...

I have 4 angles in 55 gallon with 3 flame geromies, 1 Rainbow shark, 2 Cory cats, 1 pocassmos(bad spelling), they get along fine.
