I'm guessing this is directed to me:
That's my V-Tail Grouper (Cephalopholis urodelus).
The sand wasn't bought live but it has some live sand mixed in it. It's a mixture of Carib Sea sands (Black: Tahitian Moon, White: Marine Sand) and some live sand from my 55 gallon.

i love all puffers, they just have great personalities,
the porky was very lazy, and would lay on the ground all day, except for feeding time:D
my favorite was my stars and stripes, he was in the 390 and was about 13" or so when it broke
i used to hand feed my port jackson, and the stars and stripes would come up and nudge the port, til i would feed him
that grouper was beautiful, but a vicious little sob

the one attatched doesn't show the whole tank
check my other posts, and at the begining of this one for more pics of him,
what would you like to burst my bubble on??
the fact that he is too large for the tank.?
i already know this, and have started planning the construction on a larger tank for him. i have already located my viewing window, and we just need to start construction of the large cinder block tank
i took this shark in from another hobbyist, and plan on giving him a better home he can enjoy for the next 11 -16 years

Turbo21 - Em is a shark / fish / ocean / anything in the ocean enthusiast lol She works at the Monetary Bay Aquarium in California and is getting her degree in Marine Biology I believe (Em?) so basically this stuff is her life. When it comes to keeping sharks she gets pretty sensetive so she is probable just checking to make sure its a ethical tank, or you have ethical plans. Anyways I will let Em speak for her self I guess haha

Haha thanks Brenden. But yes, I was not about to preech to you as I am sure you are quite aware of the shark vs. tank ratio. No need to say what's already been covered. If you are in construction right now, great, I hope you will keep all of us informed as I know we will be anxious to see what you're up to with this!! One of the questions I had for you (again, truely not trying to be a bubble burster, LOL), was if you had considered removing some of the rock within the tank to allow for more open space? Having an animal which is too big for an area already, but who also shares this area with other animals, and is further limited to space by tank decor, is well, obviously not a desirable situation.
As for construction of your new tank, where is it going to be? Indoor/Outdoor? Tankmates/Reef/General Decor?? Well I will wait for you to answer before I blab on, but while I was typing this, a few things came to mind.....................
Few things you might want to consider:
*High-Rate Composite Sand Filter
*Surface Aerator
*Oxygen Generator
*Destratification system
*Ozone System (Dont do this unless you take the time to edju-ma-cate yourself first!!!!)
*Venturi Injectors (I like Mazzei)These venturi injectors are made of PVDF Kynar and are ozone compatible.
*Reverse Osmosis System
*UltraViolet Sterilizer
*Protein Skimmer (Look for one which has a capasity for a spray injection system)
And I could go on, but I don't want to overwhelm anyone so I will shut up, LOL.
turbo21
05-02-2007, 3:48 PM
thanks for not beating me up too bad em,
the pic of the tank is a little deceiving, all of the rock is within the first 2 inches of the front glass, he hangs out along the back wall, which is totally clear, i have already removed about 50 lbs of rock and moved it to the sump, will try to move some more
the new tank will be in the same place this one is, i am planning for a 500 gal sump/ fuge with hopefully about 3x turnover through the sump and another 3x through a closed loop, the tank will be surface skimmed through an overflow, i would personally try to stay away from an ozone generator, the zoo here in pittsburgh has a great track record of killing the blacktips with an overdose in ozone
tankmates will be a ton of chromis, tangs, etc
i want to get a few nice schools going
i have a 25watt emperor aquatics uv, i know it is undersized, but will upgrade that later
i am trying to get started on this build soon

Yeah but Im hooked on them. I was actually able to raise the larvae for over a month but then I got the flu and was stuck in bed for like 5 days. When I finally got to check on them they were all dead. Awrsome experience though. I didnt even get pics!! I was so busy caring for the little buggers I didnt even get to document them! What do you guys think of the stomatopod pics?

you sound discouraged?? marine in general are not that hard. But for a very very nice system it does take some money. Give a nano a shot once. Not the best starter but will get your feet wet anyways.
