I live like 30min from the aquarium. It is really cool. I have been several times. My local reef club had a gala in the cold water exhibit. It was awesome.

Are those small pilot jacks swimming with the whale shark?

Funny when the second one died....they kept it very quiet.
How are the pectorals looking? They were rubbed pretty raw when I was there last time. Still look a little thin over all.

Thats a shame it must of been real quiet I never heard anything about . I was wondering what they're going to do when they get full grown. I thought someone would try and get a great white to stay alive in captivity before they put a WHALE SHARK in one.

Good question I'll tell my wife you said that because she "accidentally" erased half of the pics. SORRY

I went about a year and a half ago (shortly after opening) and judging from your pics, the place has gone somewhat downhill. The whale sharks look insanely thin. There used to be hundreds of golden trevally by the whale sharks and now there are only a few.

What size system do they keep the whale shark in? That must be one monster sized tank.

One of two tanks in the world that should be a must-see for tankheads like me! The other one's in Okinawa, Japan. And yup, they've also got whalesharks!

What dreams are made of, eh? :D

The main Ocean Voyager Exhibit is 6.2 MILLIONgallons, and also wheres the pictures of their awesome reef, lol,:headbang2
AND the Shedd and Aquarium of the Americas do not even hold a candle to the Georgia Aquarium, been twice, loved every friggin second i was inside that place.

Shedd shows more diversity in their collection. Georgia is a little over their head at the moment. They've already killed off half of their whale shark population (two left are on the edge of dying), water quality is out of control across the board, 90% of their huge cownose school in OV has died and most of the exhibits are struggling.

I went to there in January of last year and it was amazing, but I actually preferred the Tennesee aquarium. It has a more distinct "flow" through it then the Georgia aquarium. Georgia basically has hallways off of a main corridor and if you don't quite understand how it works it's possible to miss some things.

I plan to go back but I think it's overpriced and they don't quite understand what they were getting into with it.

Here are a few of shots showing the pecs on the two new ones. The one they just added was to replace the first lost male. Their vet was over looking at the fish in holding when I was there a few months ago. They only had two out at that point. They had just used the main hoist to pull the second male out while I was there. It was still dripping wet.

You can see how thin they are and the damage from rubbing the edges of the tank on the pectoral fins.

How'd you get that top-down picture? Was that the behind-the-scenes tour they have?

Zoodiver

Perks of the job. But they do offer a behind the scenes tour.

That is so SAD.....they come to Coral Bay west australia and steal the whale sharks ( indaged species )from one of the one places they breed on the planet...We have noticed a massive decrease in juvinile shark numbers over the past 3 years....this is why. Soon there will be none, and its all in the name of entertainment. If you really want to see a Whale shark ( a healthy one ) then come to West Australia and go diving with one before there all killed in aquariums. Please do not support this aquarium or any others that display such crultey to fish.:irked:
