monster fish keepers-

in the next 1-2 years i am going to be investing in one of these in the 4000gl setup:

http://www.aquaculturetanks.com/brochure8.htm

at 4000gl it looks to be big enough to house most any fw fish, but i would like to run either a large pima or 7-10 silver aro's as the main attraction. for our pima experts here, could a 4000gl tank house a full grown pima for its entire life?

Simply put: No. Think 30-50 thousand gallons.
But you could do the group of arowana......I think that would look amazing!

thanks for the honest input. 10 aro's, 5-10 oscars and a few different cats are the plan. i really wanted a pima, but i'm not going to get in over my head.

I have mixed feelings when It comes to something like this. I do agree with zoodiver, that an enormous tank would be optimal.

But a 4000gl tank is a lot better than what most pimas end up in, and in a tank like you were showing, one would have a much happier life and fate, then how most end up.

It is kind of frustateing cause in one sense, you a saveing a pima from a store, and in most cases a slow demise. But in doing so, you are also creating a demand for a fish that in most cases can't be housed properly. Wheter or not you get one though, they will still wind up in pet stores.

I really think they are one fish that should should stay in the wild, but at this point in time they are still going to be imported. Would I love to have one; yes. But I don't feel that I could ever house one in a tank that would be appropriate, at least at this point in my life.

IMO it is really up to you and no one else whether or not you get one.

A tank the size of the ones shown will hold the fish for maybe up to two years. Another thing to think about is arapaima are known jumpers. You'd need to consider that factor in this as well. Where are you located? I assume somewhere warm enough to keep them outside all year.

its not all in the gallons...........a large round pond/pool would be better

see p24s http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/iid/6313/cid/1765

i wouldn't have space for that size john, plus, it would need to go in the ground.

oh well, it was just a thought. i think the 10 aro's will look pretty good.

Holy cow! What do these bad boys cost?

Do they come with pumps, or are those tubes just tubes?

i plan on designing the landscaping around the pond to simulate their natural environment so i plan on having low hanging branchs over the pond. when insects land on the branchs....bam, like were in the amazon...

might be cheaper to build it yourself like a big koi pond and you can make it nice and deep and add a window that would be cool

A 4000g pond might work, but it depends on the dimensions of the pond. I'd say 36'x15'12' would be the BARE MINIMUM for those fish. Which is about 5000g.
