If you've already got firemouths, cons, pictus, and some barbs in your tank, then it sounds as if your already well stocked for a 55g and should not consider getting any other fish for that tank. You could house a red devil alone in a 55g for a bit, but an adult red devil will require a much larger tank.

I'm not sure how having a fish mislabled makes anyone a retard. I do know that if I ever considered a store "retards" I sure wouldn't shop there cause then you are one.

Red Terrors, Most if not all I have seen there are Uro's. They claim they are True RT's but look at the tail spot. Dead giveaway! Also, around Chicago the Petsmarts have discd the RT/Uros anyway.

Too lazy to read back to see if anyone else said this, but many midas/rd start off with a barred coloration only to loose it later in life.

I am finding these corporations are not really stupid... it just that they're working to SERVICE the costumers.

I know... I used to work in a music shop. Costumers want to buy that $30 guitar that sound like complete crap to anyone's ears and discourage them from picking up an instrument over a somewhat decent $100, $200 beginner guitar. Then when you say they need "this and that," they go for the cheaply-marked products that don't even last a day.

The manager only stocks them because the crappy products bring in revune into the shop and not to our competitors across the street.

I agree 100%.

Even when I recommend the proper care, its goes in one ear and out the other.

i think i need to start a new job at petsmart i know most thing about dogs not much about cats but i think i know more than all of them put togather but if i didn't work there for long i would at least try to teach the other people that work there , but how much do you make at petsmart a good amount or just more than burger king

I agree 100%.

Even when I recommend the proper care, its goes in one ear and out the other.

I know! Who can blame the employees for giving the advices? About a month into my job, I just give them starter advices... whatever the costumer want -- they buy. Why bother giving them the proper setup? Once in awhile, I get a costumer I enjoy talking to and working to, but most of them are just ... well... it is just fustrating trying to encourage them to take the right path without starting an argument.

I have friends in the pet store industry, they said after awhile, they don't even bother giving advices because they either get:

1) A costumer that refuse to listen
2) A costumer who think they know everything, even though they are asking for help
3) A costumer who already well-educated on the subject and doesn't really need or ask for help

Red terrors they sell are really mayan

I just went and got a smallie (I have the space) and they were clearing them out for 1.37! But I know it's a Mayan ahead of time..........

But you know what grinds my gears?

I also bought 3 Giant D's to use as dithers (for another tank) and was told by the young girl (im being nice, lil ******)....

PS~"These are not compatabile, you know"
nuth88~"uh yeah? really why?"
PS~"To aggressive"
nuth88~"You mean the Uro and the Giant D's?"
PS~"No the Red Terror"
nuth88~"ROTFLMAO"
nuth88~"Thanks but they are going to be dithers/targets for my Cubans"
PS~"The Red Terror will kill everything"
nuth88~"The Uro?"
PS~"Why do you keep saying URO?"
nuth88~"The "RED TERROR" that you are selling me for $1.37 is really a Mayan Cichlid, also known as a False Red Terror, The Uro has a larger and more center-aligned tail spot. That is the easiest way to determine if you have a "true festae". The festae's is off-centered"
PS~"Do you want the Red Terror or not?"
PS~"Because Im not giving you the Danios if you are just going to have them killed"
nuth88~"Isn't that what you sell feeders for?"
PS~"What?"
nuth88~"I could just buy feeders for a hell of a lot cheaper, If I wanted them dead"
PS~"What?"
nuth88~"Ill just take the fish"
nuth88~"thank you, and you have a nice day!"
PS~muttered under breath "Dick"
nuth88~"What?"
PS~"Nothing Sir"
nuth88~"Uh huh"

Now my wife tells me that I am a arrogant prick, well duh......I was just having fun, I will give the young gal credit for telling me that my Red Terror would kill the Danios.

Red Terror my Azz!

Exactly. Basically I tell them the basics as to not to kill it. If they seem interested I elaborate. Not worth it otherwise.

its not not petsmart but........one time at petcetera there was this woman and her two kids looking to buy fish for an already setup tank. they find an employee and start asking him questions about certain fish, "does this catfish here eat algae?", and they guy responds with "well, they certainly do not clean as much as a pleeco" (yes, pleeco). then they ask about gold barbs and if they need to be kept in groups, and he says "well, they can survive in schools, but they are just as happy by them selves". i'm over here thinking WHAT? so i go over to the woman and calmly explained to her that the barb would probably be completely stressed by itself and it would be more likely to get sick because of this stress. she kindly accepted my advice, and they left the store with a platy, a catfish, and something else that i can't remember. all in a days work, lol.

I was at petdumb today for some plant ferts, and I see a lone festae running this small cubicle of a tank . Sharing this wrath is a small bunch of 2'' oscars, and several 5-6'' "red shnook cichlids''. This festae is just blasting all in its sight, when I let the manager of the fish dept know what was happening. I told him what the festae was gonna do and that he should get it out of there or sell it to me for $5.00 like they are priced at the other locations. He said that I was wrong about it being an RT, that it was another ''red shnook cichlid'' and that it STILL COST $29.99!I just laughed and walked away.

petsmart(and petco) are retarded. My first tank I ever had, i wanted convicts and firemouths, before i knew anything. The loser had convicts mixed with jags, all labeled as convicts. he sold me one of the jags, and it ended up eating everything, and growing tremendously. had to get rid of it before long.
