Not that I don't know anything about it. I've been learing alot since coming aboard this website, especially from diesel mack. Has gorgeous p-bass tank. Just never kept them or seen anybody around with them thats all. don't get too excited.

Everyone starts somewhere and nobodys an expert even if they if they read every book available. It seems theres alot of flaming going on for no reason at all....looks healthy to me and has a nice sized tank to start off in...thats saying alot to me right there with such a hard fish to keep.

Mine? Its about 7.5", no idea what it is aside that its not a temensis or orino....lol....which narrows it down to ocellaris or mono...pretty sure its ocellaris though. Anyway...it was $46....not too shabby....GREAT condition! Healthy, plump....all around beauty...:D

I Disagree. Einstein wasnt an expert? Jeff Rapps isnt an expert?

Cichla monoculus - 24-28 inches. and they need about as much room as a 4 foot catfish at that size...

feeding live food is best.

Nice looking peacock bass. Let us know if the eyes turn red. Then you defintely have a keeper.

Note: Feeding live food is best for "all fish". Trying to teach it to eat prepared foods is better in the long run. And yes, Einstein is an expert, Jeff Rapps is an expert. I believe Diesel is referring to everyone making mistakes...no room for this harsh correction.

A pair should be good for life in a 8x2x2 tank.

An active 2-foot fish in a 8x2 tank seems pretty obscene to me... let alone two of said fish.

My point on the whole statement is to be an expert....no matter who you are, you must have hands-on experience......this is why any profession ect has you do an internship or other type of job related experience.....you must start somewhere. And even Einstein worked at that which he mastered....the same with jeff. So the whole point being everyone here had a first fish of some type....either by an impulse buy or by wanting one so bad you just had to have it......everyone makes mistakes...otherwise nobody would learn anything.
As for the "Bloodeye" or red colored eye....dont put your money on it that its automatically an ocellaris.....many cichla get bloodeye depending on mood,feeding,ect... but ocellaris do indeed keep the red coloration more consistantly.....I currently have two specific tems that keep red eye coloration 24/7 and young orinocos that have red eyes pretty consistantly.

As for longterm tank size......at least a 3-4ft width for turning with 8ft+ length...or better an indoor pond.................just an opinion.

because they are a business, they are there to make money. Isn't that sort of obvious? :screwy:

first someone said that jeff isnt an expert, and then someone said he is. whether he is or no. jeff told me that a temensis will rarely get more then 18 inches in home aquaria, is this b.c people rarely provide them with the right conditions or that it just wont grow that big?

i think one peacock bass in an 8' x 2' x 2' tank would be alright, obviously it wouldnt be perfect, but with good filtration he would have a better life than most of the peacocks that get sold at the pet store end up with

man , just when i thought i landed a beauty, i think he came down with a fungus right on the mouth. i assume that is what is on his mouth. i can't seem to get a good pic. diesel said they are very suceptible to disease early on. he was right a few days after I got him and this developed. none of the tankmates seem to have anything wrong with them only the p-bass. looking to separate, but with the storm coming i am not going to bother with it. too much going on and depending on the outcome of the storm, maybe i won't have any fish afterward.

Whats the temp of your tank? I would keep it at about 85 degrees while you are treating.... Just might help with stress... Peacocks love warm water, especially when there young!!!

GOOD LUCK!!! HE'S A BEAUT!!!!

amazingly now, the convict terrorizes the living daylights out of it. I think maybe thats why it has developed some kind of disease or something on the mouth. will try to post a pic, if I can get a good quality one.
