Quarantine Tank
Do you thing it is wrong to buy tank decor that your fish might scratch or bang up against, even thou there is plenty of room in the tank, and expect your fish to learn to steer clear of it?

Example being, many aro owners do not buy drift wood for fear of their aros damaging themselves on it, but my main general question is...

is it fair to expect your fish to learn to not swim into something?:D

thoughts? comments?

well, aslong as there is space enough for it to be avoided, i don't see a problem with it, but if it is a fish that is easily spooked, then i wouldn't really put something it could hurt it self on, as it has no control when it swims away fast.

Fish are excellent learners though.

I put driftwood in my aro ray haven't seen a problem at all with my aro to be technical all fish have obstacle like that in the wild too

think so?

ever see a spooked paroon or something similar? i just swims in the opposite direction as fast as possible, 90% of the time it will just nail something in the tank, and i'm sure it doesn't do this on purpose.

no i don't own one though

I dont know about all of your arows but i have these four walls of glass in my aquarium and my aro can never remember that they are there.

x2
and Oscars, polys, just about every fish that doesn't sit in one spot. :D

i have a tall thin peice of driftwood in my aro tank, from bottom to just sticking out of the water. it was to put where it is to stop fish patrolling the front glass. it works as my fish all swim around it. they bump into it rarely and it never leaves marks
