View Full Version : Live rock how much?
I was just wondering how much live rock is recommended for a 75g tank. I have 50 pounds coming in a couple of days, figured that would be enough to start with and could add more later if need be. I have read about the one ppg rule as with sand but no sure if that was 100 percent correct. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks

your aquarium will be much more stable with 2 pounds per gallon
provided you have enough water circulation ;)

If there's anything you've taught me, bluedempsey, it's that more rock is better! That and the fact that I should be more patient, but that's not happening any time soon! :woot:

sounds nice ;)
Ya right now I have about 120 pounds of live sand in there and 50 pounds of live rock is on the way. Guess I better get a lil bit more from the sounds of things. Thanks for all the info everyone.

the old standard of 2-3 lbs per gallon is outdated for the fact that those numbers were based on florida live rock which was very dense -- the live rock available today from fiji, soloman is, etc. is much more purous and can sustain a great deal more beneficial bacteria per pound, 1-2 lbs per gallon is usually sufficent -- however like the others said: the more rock the better so it really comes down to how much you can afford since it aint cheap
