11~12" male haitiensis

He was a good father and allowed fry's to eat him alive. It was too late by the time I separated him from the babies. He got pretty bad infection and never recovered from it.
Pictures of him when he was alive.

That's a bummer. :(
At least he dies a good dad.
You plan on growing out some of his little ones for yourself?

Man that's a shame. That's kinda nuts though, I've never heard of fry killing one of their parents.

Yes, I am growing out a few for myself. The mom is recovering nicely and she does not allow babies to eat her anymore.
The fry's are about 2" tl now. Hopefully, I can get a few nice males out.

I was never aware of N. haitiensis letting fry feed of their slime coats. When i went to Gani's and saw his he told me about your fish so I was blown away.
Your male was beautiful. I've no doubt you'll get a real looker out of the batch, just like his old man. :)

Not just the slime coats, the babies were eating the flesh, scales, and fins of the parents. :(

bummer man. gl raising a son of his to replace. i've had some pretty sad times with loosing some of my big guys that i've had for years. so i know how u might feel. i say again gl with one of his sons :)
Aww too bad man :( That's terrible, and it's definately not a fish you see every day. 99% of the specimens people purchase probably don't even make it past 5 inches, makes me really sad to see such a wonderful specimen pass on like that.

I'm really sad to hear this m8, he was a beautiful specimen. Good luck raising a youngster to replace him! I'll be watching any babies I may eventually get for this destructive trait !!!
