Just thought it would be neat to keep a special thread for people who keep multiple Arows together.. we can keep track of the MFK people that have them and also keep track of the arows in groups..of two or more.. I would post a pic but i only have one Arow.....someday.... but for anyone that has 2 or more arrows in the same set up please post a picture.. this thread will only be for muliple arow owners.. in addition to your photos please try to inform us of any positives things that happen{such as a mating} and also all the negatives things to watch out for} as in hostility etc.. i hope everyone with multiple arows joins in.. please because we all can learn so much.......thanks:D

it might just be me but i like a single arowana to a tank with various other species of fish of equal size or smaller, or by itself.

i dunno an aro community looks weird to me, no offense to anyone.

I like a few aro's with other fish, but not JUST aro's.

In my future 375 im going three aro's with a motoro for the bottom.

This is not about what you prefer Del... nor is it a question of what you want to see.. everyone can have their own likes and dislikes in their setups ....this thread is just about multiple kept arrows.. the challenges, the uniqueness, and the daily day to day living of two or more arows.. it is like hitching up a horse to a wagon..or hitching up 2-4-6- 8 horses to the hitch..it takes skill to drive them, it takes respect that all them will work out together in harmony... it is not for everybody..it is for the ones ready to live up to the task.. you have to give these people the credit they deserve.. and i like the idea of having a thread you can go to see at anytime to find all the multiple arow owners..:D

i'd post pics, but videos show more of a fish's personality... here's my 3 in the 400gal. and i think 1 aro is great, but more is greater. i had 2 living together for over a year but added meilings just recently last month and it made a great addition. 3 aros swimming together is jus gorgeous imo. i plan to add more later.

really great video of your guys.. watching them in action is wonderful .. they seem to have such a content look to them together, maybe it is the fact of not being alone... did you keep Arows by themselves too.. is there a difference in their personality when they are in a group.. because they sure look happy to me..:grinno:

i had a solo aro in the past. seemed to jus swim back n forth all day. these guys seem packed with personality, if 1 aro is at the front doing its dance, the other 2 start copying him. its awesome. 1 aro is cool, but seems to be happier when more then 1 are in the tank.

i thought so... you can actually see it in their face.. they have that smug content look.. maybe it is just good for them to have a little competition..something to keep them perked up.. instead of same ole same ole.. looking good thats for sure!:D

I started wondering how many arowanas I could keep in a 375 with a motoro stingray.

The dimensions are 96''longx36''widex25''high. I'm probably going to do one black and two silvers, but was also wondering if I could do two blacks and two silvers? Also if it matters any I might have two motoros in the 375.

If I cant keep anymore then three, Im probably just going to get another motoro so I have two of them.

PS, If I am derailing this thread in anyway, I would like a Mod to delete my post. Thank you.

Some more recent pics of my arow community tanks. My 11yr old son loves his arows and pbass!!! These were taken tonight.

CHARACTERISTICS:
Black/silver pair.
Black is smaller but still dominant. The silver most usually follows the black. The silver and black are freindly and rarely skirmish. They are mostly next to each other all the time. The black allows the slilver to eat first. The silver is and the black are equally active, but the black is more "chill" The black is more agressive than the silver. The usually get along with all the other fish in my community aquarium. 6' 220 gallon aquarium.

LARGER SILVER PAIR:
Always swimming together. One is more dominant than the other, and will eat first until he has had enough than allow the other slightly less in size arow eat. Only one has taken flight, the dominanat one, and I have had to pick him up and put him back into the tank on several occasions. They are very peacful toward one another, always together or interacting together. Very good with the large cichla tankmates, no problems with aggression at all. 8'240 gallon aquarium.

Also here is some vide I shot today and posted to youtube:

Silver and black arowana swimming around:

yeah, not so black anymore. as far as interact, the jardi is really aggro, but the silver is just to big to mess with. kept them together for a month, the jardi kept taking nips at the silver but never caused any damage. moved the jardi back to his tank (was resealing the silicone)

Great aro comm guys.

Yep, forgot to mention the being of my aro setup.
Bigger jar was the first aro, the rescued one that I got back in 11/2006...so that makes him about 6 months, well after 3 months of having the 1st jar I picked up a silver that was 5" at the time now he's about 10-11". A month later of getting the silver I picked up the 2nd jar waited a month for him to grow out a bit and put him with the other 2 aros.

He got beat up pretty bad by the 2nd day and I pulled him out and placed him back in the 55g tank for 3 weeks to heal up. I put him back into the 125 and he got chased around a bit but after a week of that everything was calm. That was until 2 months ago that I picked up a GT that at first was gentle but over that time she got aggressive and would fight only with the jars, not the silver.

Needless to say in 3/2007 I picked up 3 more jars, and the 3rd jar in the picture about 5" was placed in 5 days ago.
1st day everything was okay.
2nd day got the crap beat out of him. I was going to take him out and put him back into the 55g but I since moved the 2nd new jar into it to grow out a bit.
3rd new jar is in a 20gL for now to grow out some more.

Well after the 3rd day the 1st new jar in the big tank wasn't being harrassed anymore. He's swimming around and eating with the occassional chase from the other 2 jars.

It's funny tho, none of the jars bother the silver aro or vice versa. I'm waiting for the 2nd and 3rd new jar to grow out some more. Strange that these 2 didn't grow as fast as the 1st new jar. I feed them all the same amount of food..(gut loaded meal worms and occassioanl superworm).

Once these two grow to out some I'm going to put them into the big tank and see from there. Oh yeah, I removed the GT and placed here in a 40g BR tank.

Also waiting for my two mono PBass to grow some more and they'll be in that same tank(aros) too.

Yeah..yeah..I can hear it now.."OMG that tank is overstocked ...blah..blah...blah..."

I have a plan to set up a 210 or possibly 300g tank within a few months..so relax you town criers.

Plus I have some new tenants on the way in. :naughty:

I think everyone gets that same feeling just looking at everyones Arows on this thread...real power, real fishkeeping... really gorgeous.. mind boggling .. infact words excape me.. because there is no real easy way to describe the beauty of numerous arows together like this.. it is truly a thing of awe! A MIXED FEELING OF "awestruck" and "awestricken"... all wrapped up with a ribbon and a bow..

have you tried breeding the SW yet? I can't get the buggers to turn into beetles! They're healthy. I tried separating them into individual containers, but they're still in the worm state. Of course, they're dirt cheap, so breeding may be more trouble than it's worth.

BTW> Found this guy online and ordered from him several times! Excellent service and shipping. Prices good too.

Yeah..I have 12 beetles now. I've put them in a sterilite bin with some egg cartons, using grounded oatmeal flakes, cornmeal, some fish flakes as the substrate.

I just put them in about a week ago after they mutated. Waiting to see some eggs.

Also..I'll post some pics later..just got my shipment of some "goodies" today. One of the goodies are 750 SW. :naughty: I'm going to separate another 36 that are of sufficient size and have them go dormant to mutate.

BTW what are you using to store the SW to mutate? Me, I use those plastic utility boxes that have partitions in them. Each box holds 18 SW in its own "condo room" I then store them into my dresser drawer that is room temp of course and no light for about 3 weeks or so and voila! BEETLES!

I look at it this way, if it doesn't work out and I need to separate them..I have get another 2 or so big tanks..probably those plastic/fiberglass tanks with a window from AquaticEcosystems.

I think the light is what's keeping mine in worm form. I keep them in those stackable rubbermade drawer thingys. They're opaque plastic, but I think they let some light in. I didn't know they needed 100% dark to shape shift into beetles :D Where are you buying yours? Premium crickets sells 1000 SW for $22. Hella deal IMO. At that price, it's not worth my frustration to try to breed them myself. I think that's the point though.

True..but if you want beetles..hehe..to put in on the branches in your 1000g setup so the aro's will jump to snag the buggers...thats the way to go .:D

I get my SW from TFD...50ct for $2. I only ordered this much because the minimum amt to order from TFD is $200...hence the other "goodies" I picked up. :D

But I like the prices you got better. I'll probably get some from them too in the near future. Thanks for the heads up on that. :woot:

John I have a question. Do they swim aside one another, and the male nips the other one (but doesn't really bite too hard to rip scales or fins)? Then they get next to each other and sort of swim in circles together at times??

That is what mine are doing and I swear they are preparing to mate or something. Just not their usual behavior.

could it be possible even though it has been going on 6 months that they are still in the process of wooing each other..Arows live many years and the conditions have to be perfect, so it just may take awhile for them to actually breed.. because it seems to me when they finally do breed there is alot at stake with Dad deciding he won't be eating anything for a long time.. just a thought.. how long does it take for courtship in some of these asian fish farms.. at what age does an arow become mature enough to breed.. all these things have to be concidered.. ;)

thanks for the comments liz.. um, the silver is in a 55 growout with 2 dragon gobies ( who never bother him because they're too busy sucking on bloodworms).. there is also a clown pleco that i will never see again because i just put that choice piece of wood in there for SMASH (the silver).. i also have a couple of butterfly loaches to clean that glass.. and Chomper( the jar) is right below the silver in a 30 Long Growout.. there is only a trinidad pleco with him.. i really do like the color on the trinidad.. But Chomper went from rags to riches.. when i first picked him up he was in a 55gal with a bunch of silvers a lil bit bigger and he had some dented scales and some fin rippage, but now he eats like a pig and is growing bigger each day.. ill try take some night pics as you can see my bob marley flag in the background glare.. thanks a again for the commment liz, and have an awesome day!

OH he will be fine then.. he is beautiful and hope it did not bother you that i noticed, i just seem to be more aware beware because my one cat fish was nipping at my oscars fins.. and i happened to notice it in time before any thing came of it.. best of luck to you with both your beautiful Arows and try to post more pics soon.. i will be looking for them.. thanks again..LIZ

it was weird how his fin started ripping, one day from doing a routine WC, he got scared, bumped his head on the hood and had minor scratches on his head, but the next day i noticed some ripps in his fins starting, what you are seeing the pics above is about maybe 2 weeks at the most (from when they started ripping).. melafix and pimafix doesnt seem to be working, any suggestions??

It takes a little time to grow out the fins.. how long has it been since you noticed them nipped looking.... as long as nothing is bothering him and they are not getting worse ...they will end up getting better.. add a little salt to tank to make sure no fungus or infection starts up only if you notice problems with his scales yet.. but the fins look fine in the pic.. just looked nipped.. keep a close eye on it..but i think he should be fine.. especially if he is eating good etc.. if you take a picture today and tommorrow you notice fins are nipped more i would suspect someone is doing it.. ;)Make sure you inquire on correct aquarium salt amount if and when you need to use it.. we use it when scales are roughed up to avoid infection.. but the proper amount is important vs. the size tank you have..

WC every other day is fine. He will really enjoy the clean water. And he will grow fast too. Small aro are really skittish.

we usually treat a tank with medicine and let the water change go a couple of days.. other wise the medicine does not have a chance to work..;) I just want to add that your silver is looking very healthy in the pic.. and a few fins nipped looking is nothing on a baby..couple of months and your going to have a fine fins.. nothing to worry about thats for sure.. you have a beautiful babyx's two!

Thank you so much for the compliments, Liz. The noise is from Ringo, our Moluccan Cockatoo. African Grays are so smart; it's funny (but not surprising) that he recognized Ringo's call even through a video. Does he talk like crazy? Ringo won't shut up. Ha.

Thank you so much for the compliments, Liz. The noise is from Ringo, our Moluccan Cockatoo. African Grays are so smart; it's funny (but not surprising) that he recognized Ringo's call even through a video. Does he talk like crazy? Ringo won't shut up. Ha.

I have an umbrella cockatoo also.. yes african gray knows more words and songs then i can count.. your welcome!Moluccan cockatoo are sweet too.. Angle my cockatoo was not in the room, when i played video or she would have been yapping too!!:D

Do your birds like watching your fish? Ringo will sit for hours and stare at the tanks. They fascinate him... And he loves the pond room. That's why he's making all that noise in the video. He wanted to be back there with us.

General question about other animals and fish: Has anyone else noticed your dogs/cats/birds/etc. staring at your fish tanks?

Cash the african gray likes to look at fish.. the cockatoo likes to peck at glass and try to catch them.. and the sun conure screams when she sees them..there is a thread in here about pets and fish ..it was a while ago but it was a cute thread..

it might just be me but i like a single arowana to a tank with various other species of fish of equal size or smaller, or by itself.

i dunno an aro community looks weird to me, no offense to anyone.
not natural enough for you? Need the variety to even the tank out?:headbang2
