Alright so I'm finally getting to the point where all I need is the fish. I have a 90 gallon, just purchased some amazing texas holey rock for the tank. It looks awesome and I got a great deal. I don't plan on buying fish until I move in to my new place in a couple of months but I do want to figure out what are the best fish to start out with. I am also looking for some black or dark blue gravel so if you have any sujestions where I can purchase that I would appreciate it.
As far as fish go I want a good variety of color in the tank, I love the blues, blacks, and yellows. I have plenty of good holes in the rocks for breeding as well so that is something I want to consider. So if anyone wants to let me know what would be a good community of fish to purchase and put in the tank, and the number I should get I would appreciate it alot. Once I get this all going I'm going to document the whole project!!!
thanks for everything,
nick

there are so many ACs out there. you got to get an idea as to what you want. big fish small fish, tangs, malawi, etc

You can get black tai sand from petsmart.......they price match, so find it on bigalsonline.com and bring them the price its like 1/2 off.....

If you want variety get an asst. SA cichlids.....they will all get along get to be bout 4-5 inchs and be a rapid moving tank with lots of color and activity.....then get a few CL's for clean the bottom and a few gold nuggets or chocolate plecos of that sort to clean the holey rock :D

I do belive this is posted under Rift valley cichlids!:screwy: Why then suggest otherwise!
Your Malawi mbuna will give you some great colouring along the lines which you have mentioned.
You can also look to the far less aggressive Alonacara species but then you will be limited to the number of species in the tank otherwise you will end up with cross breeding.
With the mbuna it is less likely if you give the males 2-3 females.
Look at the various Cynatilapia, Metriaclima and Pseudotropheus species.
:naughty:  :headbang2 :nilly:

check out Pseudotropheus Demasoni
perfect for your holy rock
blue black vertical striping
will end up being your favorite African
a ton of personality and cool behavior
newly discovered with a cool story behind it
Ive kept one for 3 yrs and plan on keeping a group
and getting them to breed

for yellow coloring check out Cynotilapia Afra "lions cove"
its not the more common electric yellow from lions cove
awesome fish semi rare Ive kept with Demasoni

all the Cynotilapia Afra's are SWEET

in my Hap tank everyone digs my Protomelas Steveni "taiwan reef"
and my favorite in there is a Fossorochromis Rostratus
amazing colors on these two fish

SnakeDogs suggestion is a good one. Demasoni are awsome, as are Afra Lions Cove. You could also get your yellow from yellow labs.

In a 90 gallon, you could go with 15 Demasoni (because of their aggression towards each other, you want at least 11), 4 Afra Lions Cove, and 4 labs!

Oh yeah, and Clown Loaches go great with Mbuna.
