AquaClear 300 too big for my 33 Gallon?

Can anybody give me some advice?
I was told at a pet store that my AquaClear 300 Filter is too big for my 33 Gallon tank. It over oxidises the water she said. They also said that it isn't going to be a problem in my tank the box says it's good for 40 gallons to 70 or something, and that it should be fine. They said it would be better to have the AquaClear 200, but I bought the tank with the 300 not realizing. Oh well. My question is, If I add a bubbler to my tank now it will it add too much oxygen to the water, and if so will that kill my piranhas? Any info would be appreciated, because I would really like a bubbler.

I dont see it being a problem, its just more filtration for messy eaters. I think it will be ok..but I'm sure some of the pro's here will give you better more detailed advice. I would stick with it and the bubbler if it was me:)

BAHAHAHAHAH u cant kill piranhas there INVINCIBLE .....well not really but they dont just roll over and die. what type are u keeping? how many? ive got aquaclear 300s on both my 30 gal community, and my 30 gal s. manueli tank and there great, the tanks have been setup since december. yah over oxidises the water bs ull be fine
 
One bit of advice, people who are colorblind can't see small red print on a dark blue screen, I have no idea what you wrote. :(

I got my niece to read it for me, lol. On a 55g tank I like 2 filters each rated from 40-80g and a 39g size ugf with 2 airstone uplifts. I like overkill.
By bubbler do you mean an irstone or something like a powerhead with air tube? In a 30 the powerhead might be a bit much but you can add a shunt valve so it gets less air.
The person who told you that your water would get over oxidizes probably meant oxygenated which means fill with dissolved oxygen, oxidized means burnt or rusted. Water can become hyperoxygenated by being under pressure at high pressure, pythons can do this, but it is usually seen in dicharged water from hydroelectric dams. It can give your fish the equivalnce of the bends or bloody gills, everything in the tank gets covered in tiny bubbles and if you drop in a grain of uncooked rice it will start a stream of bubbles and float to the tops. If this happens just stir your tank with a big spoon for a few minutes so the water can outgas.
If you were to put a powerhead in each corner of your tank with airlines to each of them MAYBE you could hyperoxygenate a 30g. :thumbsup:

AHAHAHAHA!!! :ROFL: NEVER BELIEVE ANYTHING FROM A LOCAL FISH STORE!!! :grinyes:

a aquaclear 300 is superb filteration for you 33 gal tank! aint no such thing as over filteration or over oxydation, and bubbler or airstones can NEVER!! add too much oxygen!!! they can only reach equalibrium with the atmosphere and the temperature of the water so go ahead and add it, remember that this will increase water evaporation, so top off your tank with freshwater when the level gets too low.

your P will be fine, although i do suggest you get a bigger tank.
 
Thanks for the advice. By the way my pirahnas are red bellies and are very young two of them are maybe three inches long, and one is maybe 2 inches long. I was told by the guy that sold me the tank, (private deal in paper) they should be fine in a 33 gallon for a while. Back to my Bubbler question. I mean I want one of those long flat bubbler type devices you bury under the substrate that creates bubbles. I'm not sure of their actual name. My other question is, if I buy one of of these devices what do I need to supply it with air? Would I need a powerhead? They're 50 bucks at the stupid LPS, although I do know of a few good shops that it might be cheaper at but they're on the other side of the city :WHOA: Another question I would appreciate an answer to is, the water in the 33 gallon is treated with AQUAPLUS "tap water conditioner" and CYCLE "rapidly matures new aquariums for Fresh or Salt Water" the tank has been running with the treated water for about three days now, how much longer do you think I should wait before adding my piranahs? And one last quick question the guy also threw in a Freshwater Master Test kit, but I guess he forgot to give me the color charts. Is there anywhere I can buy just the color charts for high and low pH, and nitrate/ammonia levels, or is there somewhere i can find them online? I'm sorry for such a big post I just want to do things correctly, and I see that this community has some very knowledgeable members, and I thank you guys again. :thumbsup:

I answered these questions in your other post. I would hit any lfs up for a copy of the color chart, those are disposable and if they use that test there they will usually have one lying around, or you could e-mail the maker and ask for one, just say it was missing, you don't have to mention that it was given to you. Most companies are happy to send things like that to you, it is cheap good PR.
 
I have one of those on my 29g and it is great. helps alot. keeps it crystal clear. I also have one on my 100g with a canestaer filter and i want to get a aqua clear 500 to help out even thos it is clear but the more filtration the better :D(i am also looking at a sump for the tank). the only thing i can see about this big of a filter is smaller fish getting sucked onto the intake tube and die but i have a 1in JD and he is fine. i have seen him swim right by it and not even struggle
