I was laying down some outdoor ant killer (its called terro, bag of small granuals) as i was fillings some 5 gallons from my outdoorfilter for my aquariums. I was reading the back and under the enviornmental hazards it read,
"This product is extremely toxic to fish. Do not apply directly to water. Drifts and runoffs from treated areas may be hazardous to aquatic organisms in treated areas. do not contaminate water when disposing of equipment washwaters."
I thought that was good to know since the summer heat is coming to cali soon. I would guess most of you get ants inside and out just like do. I even catch them near my tanks often, let alone around my room and all over outside. I would think its more a caution to those who have OUTDOOR PONDS like i do. I could easily see the runoff getting into a pond, or a parent laying it in an area without knowing its damage. Just a lil info.

I bet ant killer is exteremly toxic to humans, dogs, cats,ect.....

Yep, most of that stuff is extremely toxic to fish. I don't chance it, if it has a chemical in it it doesn't get near my fish (or herps, or anything).

Although it's funny, growing up I lived right next to a golf course. I used to fish the hazard ponds and catch the most & biggest bass (for New England anyway, 5+lbs all the time). Used to eat 'em too...and catfish. Think of all the pesticides they spray on golf courses, and the fish lived. Frankly I'm surprised it didn't kill me, let alone the fish :)

here's 1 southern remedy for pestering ants, use grits around their mounds ants will be gone in 24-36 hours;)

Soon? It already hit 95 last week. :nilly:
I'm hoping the cooler weather will last a bit longer but the ants have already made their presence known.
I'm at a loss too. I've got dogs and one of my housemates has cats. I'm quite against spraying or using pellets to get rid of pests around the animals, inside or out, but I'm also going crazy over the ant invasion. They're in my freezer. :WHOA:

In my area is near impossible to kill all the ants or any pest in my area. Rats, mice possums, kill them and they just come from up the street or any of the horse trails in the area. Only way is prvention. Im going to try out the grits this year. And i usually use the biological spray that not harms to pets
