I recently purchased a delhezi about 5". The markings are ok but the black stripes aren't exactly as promenant as I want them to be. Mainly the stripes closest to the head kind of thin out. Is there anything or anyway I can make the stripes come out more?

=/ ok thanks guys.
in my experiece the "true" colors come out as the bichir matures and/or settles in the their new environment. water quality, comfort level, diet, substrate color, genetics and a host of other possible factors can play a role in the poys contrast and overall color.
i dont think you can do much as for getting the delhezi to develop more markings. but they can darken up over time. just make the best possible environment and a healthy varied diet you can and have fun watching it grow :)
this is a series of photos of my delhezi. i purchase this guy about 3 years ago. it was very pale when i first got it from stress. now looks much better.
1st photo- day 1
2nd- about 3 months after
3rd- about a year later
4th- present day now at 11"

Nice comparison shots xrayz. That should be a sticky.
see there isn't a whole lot of change in the markings there, but nice show of the delhezi growth.

a darker substrate may darken the stipes a little, but their shapes wont change

Anne should use that in the bichir identification project she's working on! Thank you for posting that comparison XRAYZ... I wasn't entirely convinced that the pattern doesn't change, but there's the proof.
Sure contrast changes with substrate, but those patterns are locked in from birth. Wow. :)
