Finally got a CK

hey guys i have been looking for a Clown Knife for quite a while and i finally came across one yesterday. it is about 6" long right now and is in my 75 to grow out. right now i am feeding him chopped up market shrimp...do any of your CK's have a favorite food? i am trying to avoid live feeders though.

he has a very nice row of spots on his underside and a few other random spots. do they develope more spots as they get older or do they fade away? any other advice would be great...and yes, i am aware of there adult size. i will post pics of mine today or tonight.

My guy loves Freeze-Dried Shrimp. I also give him the occassional feeders once every month or two.

i didnt know they would eat food off of the surface? thats really cool. im sure mine will also get feeders occasionally, but none of my fish eat them on a regular basis.
 
ck's are fun fish. i have mine eating smelt, sinking carnivore pellets, and feeders. they tend to lose some spots when they get older, but the ones that remain become more prominent :)
 
I have always wanted one its a simple fish I just like the look of them. its the one thats always at the pet store that I want bad but I never get and I always wait for the weird fish to come in. lol I should just go buy one.

would they ever take food from your hand? where do you get smelt? i havent been able to find any.
 
usually any market that sells fish will have it. like 3 dollars per pound. just look around. fairly easy. i got mine at an asian market. and no it does not take food from my hand. they are too shy i think
 
1 of mine eats beef heart and love hikari gold! the other eats only hikari gold, which is awesome! which are off of the surface!
 
i havent actually seen mine eat yet. i put some chopped up shrimp in there the first night i had him and in the morning it was gone, but he has some smaller tankmates so they may have eaten it. what is a good starter food i should offer just to get him eating? should i give him some feeders just to make sure he well nurished before i try getting him on prepared? again i am not a fan of giving my fish feeders.
 
CKs are pretty smart. They'll learn what's food and when's feeding time.
