View Full Version : What's so great about the MFK books?
These MFK books seem to be very popular. I've never seen one, but I'm curious. What's the attraction? Are they in English? Are they essentially just picture books? Do they contain any worthwhile info? Are they must have items for my library?

I asked the same questions a few weeks ago - they seem to be just picture books in Japanese. Meaning just photos, and no useable information to those of us who don't read Japanese.
I would jump on them except for two things: Price, and the lack of readability. Photos can be found online...
Just my 2 cents. Maybe this will encourage an English version?

Well let's put it this way. It's in Japanese and you only get to enjoy the pics So imagine it as like your buying a porn magazine. You dont read anything in it and you just look at pictures. NICE PICTURES :D

Welcome to America Guys (we speak english here) Japanese is useless to us.. Not to offend any Japanese here who understand the language,BUT COME ON!!
That is why the books are not sold here because they are in Japanese. They are imported in small number for those that want and appreciate the books for what they are despite having the language setback and the hefty price tag.
In the end it comes down to, if you dont like it then don't buy it. I have all 7 volumes and I personally think they are all worth it.

U mean u read the "specs".
The specs in teh MFK books are printed in regular numbers so you can understand that.

The books contain "Best Of Show" grade specimen pics. Once the new term begins, I'll hire a japanese-speaking student to translate the books for me. I did the same thing with a chinese aro book. Paid a student $25 to translate all the text (ads excluded) for me.

That's disturbing on so many levels.
How? Is it because the book is written in a foreign language ? Like what Trust said, It was imported and not forced down our throats.

just the pics alone are are worth getting them.
Like wise, i got several books in which i do not understand anything but the pictures.
However, its because i am featured inside and that motivate me to buy them. :headbang2
as for MFK.....got the complete collection till date and till today i don't understand anything.:cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

lol not a bad idea at all i work with a bunch of japanese i wonder if i could get them to do this for me (prolly more then 25$)

Ok well let me get this strait, The whole MFK site is in English (to my knowledge) and yet they only make books in japanese:screwy:. Im pretty sure that if this happened in japan or any other country they would be like WTF:irked:.

ok for those who are still confused, the japanese MFK books are NOT related to the MFK site (which i assume you meant this forum). This forum just chose the same name, thats all.
The MFK books have been around for a number of years and are up to volume 8 now and are written in japanese because they are Japanese books written/photographed/edited/published (well you get the idea) in Japan for the Japanese market. But since the contents (photos) are so awesome that people outside japan also want them and so import them from japan, even though many can't understand the text...but who cares :)

ok just to clarify my statement above, in some of the latest volumes they also start to showcase hobbyists outside japan, like taiwan, so obviously those wouldn't be 'photographed in japan' like i have said above, but you get the idea :D
