Yes, two females will sometimes pair off and spawn with each other. Of course the eggs don't get fertilized so they don't hatch.

sometimes a new breeding pair has to try it out,
before there are actually fry produced
in other words their new parents, and they do not know what to do
give it time.

I think that is what happened to my buddy but he has 3 in there. How often do you do water changes and how much?

If the eggs are tan they are fertile. If it were two females doing it (and they often do) then the eggs would remain white.

Actually, I think they would start out tan and turn white if they weren't fertile. Never bred Oscars, but that's the way it works with my Angels.
