like it says. I've bought a hagen 140 gallon thats been unpressurized for 3 years. The silicone looks flawless and I cant lift the silicone anywhere but thats a long time to be dry. I'm wondering if I will have to re silicone it. I filled it briefly and no leaks but I'm worried the silicone will let go  I will probably redo it anyway for peice of mind but does anyone here think it is nessesary?

thanx

So no need to worry about the glass seperating? Cause if it does I'm afraid that the big glass sheet will break.:WHOA:

i duno if this would work, but just add silicon to both sides of the existing silicon to add more protection

Well its full and in the garage now. Noticed when cleaning that it's a seastar and it was built on sept 19 2002. So I dont really know how long it sat empty cause the seller told me the tank was about 7-8 years old. The builder (initials RB) would have had a tough time sneeking into their house to put a quality check label under the ring of plastic on the top lol. Came with a nice metal Hagen stand so thats why he thought it was a Hagen I guess. So gonna leave it for a week and go from there.
Thanx for the input

Adding more silicone to the existing stuff won't do a thing new silicone wont bond to old.

As long as it hasnt been subject to extreme heat or cold it should be just fine. If the silicone seems hard or cracked you may want to replace it.

Ya the silicone is like new, no defects, I dont plan on redoing it at all now I will let it sit for a week though just incase.
Thanx for the input:cheers:

I got a tank from a friend, it was 10 years old...

When i got it home i bleached it, then i pealed all the silicone off, wipped it down with rubbing alchehol and acitone and silliconed it up again...

It took almost a month between getting it and weighting for the sillicone to set untill it had it filled and ready to use but better safe then sorry...

The silicone should be fine if it was kept away from the sun light but why not spend a bit of time and $10 to reseal the tank...

I've had spare tanks sitting in the garage for several years at a time before using them. Never had any problems. I assume it would depend on the condition the tank was in before it was stored, and how it was stored.
