Sounds like to much intervention to me. When breeding you take a chance fish will take some hits that's just how it is. Maybe you got lucky and the male did do his thing? You will know in about three days. The eggs will either show little black dots in them or all start to turn white. Next time give them more time if they are not just mangling each other, that way you can find out for sure if the male is fertile or a dud:)

They can breed at that age and size but I would suggest to let them grow bigger.. You'll get better quality frys. I would never recommend breeding fish that are too young and small. Your pair is not too bad in that department but they will still be growing. When they get bigger to a prime stage, you'll have healthier stronger eggs and sperm from both. That will lead to healthier better qualty frys.. It's just from me. You don't have to believe.

Anyways.. When you separated them, if they were guarding the eggs together then most likely he did fertilized them. And from my guess, Im quite sure both of them are fertile. Only if you take care of those eggs you will have frys.

gl if you want them frys.
Breed responsibly pls.. One of the few reasons I hate about the hobby is culling.

Question so did you take the eggs away from both parents? If so you will need to have an air strip, or a current closed by to replace the mothers fanning so the eggs will not form mold

cool glad to help. Yes they have to have some sort of a constant current. A lot of the Asian breeding farms will take the eggs away from the parents to cut down on the chance of one of them eating the eggs or fry. They usually prop the plate up right or at an angle with a air stone or current.
