well..there are just sick people ard...but another thing to look at...we feed our fishes with live feeders as well...goldfish, frogs etc...but I guess the fine line between them is the mouse is a warm blooded..and the rest are cold blooded...

usually with feeder fish though, its a quicker death, this little mouse was just trying to get to the surface to breath and was having his leg torn off. feeders dont usually have that happen, but, oh well, nothing we can do about it.

i think that is disgusting. i like to watch fish butcher other fish but not mice. the little things leg got bitten off and it was still swimming around. the P's ate it from the back too and it didnt die until well after it was torn to pecies.

And no, I do not torture the mice I breed for snake chow. I don't cut off their tails or ears or legs. When it comes time to be fed, they get fed. Up until that point in life, they have all the food, company, water, and best of care they can get. Which perhaps explains why the mice keep breeding...

There is still a difference between tolerable and intolerable cruelty. I'm not a PETA nut, I don't think mice should run free and wild because they are animals. But I do think that a responsible keeper for any animal that requires live food should insure the live food does not suffer unduly.

And yes, it is "just a mouse." See above statement. Pray that karma doesn't bite you in the ass and sees fit to dock you with Mickey ears in the years to come.

Thank you. :) That IS my point. To a good lot of people, a mouse is a mouse. To me, a mouse is a mouse, it's snake food. That said, I take care of the animals up until my snakes need to eat.

A majority of people would have no problem feeding a mouse or two to their piranhas. Would the same amount of people have a problem if I posted a vid of the redbellies at my work devouring a small puppy, or a bird whose wings are clipped?

But, the truth is that we do eat pigs and cows and chickens, everyday, and i guarantee you that most of those animals are put down in a very cruel way, by paralyzing them or by knocking them unconcious or by not fully killing them before they cut them up.

was a cool vid tho! and yes i felt bad for the mouse but there are other things people need to take into account, biological factors which can determine the difference between a mouse and a fish (im talking about pain now) as in nerve endings, ie the nerve endings in mice would be much closer to the skin than in fish causing them to react/feel pain more intensly. I cant be bothered going into more depth now but there would be lots of info on the net im sure.

I once had a friend drop a live rat into a tank full of 9" rbps and it lasted no more than a few seconds, I did not let it happen again but not for any moral reasons, it was messy. I have also fed mice to an eel and a marbled goby which all just sucked them down whole, the mice were free, I live trapped them in the pantry.

There are a lot of us and it would be good if we could stabalise our population and learn to think in long term sustainability and we are slowly going in that direction, but I hear a lot of people decry or place on earth but they always seem to point the finger at other people.
