A lot of them are dipped in this acid bath that burns off scales and whatnot in order to dye them...his "pattern" looks more like it could have been from that. Is it changing at all over time?

what's wrong with hybrids? I'd understand if they were just the result of dipping them in acid, as elevatethis said, but I don't see anything wrong with crossbreeding fish to form new species.

Man does not hybridize. Thats like a human with a chimp.
Dogs do it, yes, but rearely, do you mean different breed crosses? That is like a barred midas with a white midas.

I don't have anything against hybrids, I have a BP myself, but get your facts straight ;)

hah yeah. Man cannot hybridize :grinno: . dogs cross breeding doesn't count as hybridization either. Parrots just don't look right. Very very deformed little guys.

The naturalist point of view highly disagrees with hybridization because it's not natural. If you can't find it in the wild, then it's almost like it's fake. Kinda like those fish they tattoo with neon colors. Parrots are neat looking though!

If you're having problems with aggressive fish there is a neat trick I use that works. Take the bully fish and confine him. Sometimes a jar will work, but I prefer a plastic tub or cup with holes so that the fish has no chance to suffacate (even if I neglect to remember its jail sentence). Leave it under the cup or tub for a few days with no food, make sure it can see through so that it gets used to seeing the bullied fish. this will give the bullied fish time to recover, reclaim territory as well has get the bully fish used to seeing the other fish around all day, and learns to let the bullied fish eat without harrassment. This is a great remedy because the fish don't have to be seperated permanently, and can be kept the way you originally wanted them kept.

All dogs are the same species, all humans are the same species. Nether creat hybrids. To create a dog hybrid you would have to cross it with a coyote or something. To make a human hybrid you would have to cross it with a chimpanzee. That is what hybrids are, a cross between different species.

Oh yeah, because bettas, fancy guppys, fancy goldfish, koi carp and red oscars are soooo natural. Knowone has a problem with them so what is the big deal with hybrids?

Humans and “great apes” (e.g. orangutans, chimpanzees, and
gorillas) cannot successfully produce offspring due to a difference in
the number of chromosomes in their gametes… human gametes (sex
cells) each have 23 chromosomes (for a total of 46) and ape gametes
have 24 chromosomes (for a total of 48). This difference in the
number of chromosomes prevents a sperm cell of either species from
successfully fertilizing an egg from the other species.

No you don't, until it is tried and failed you have proven nothing, that is whats so great about science. Yesterday the earth was flat, germs didn't exist and animals didn't feel pain...it will be interesting to know what we will learn tomorrow. Animals that are less closely related then humans and chimps have reproduced, I have no doubt that a human hybrid could be made.

hah, yeah. I was just playing around with the whole bling bling thing. But the truth is that it hasn't been proven that humans and chimps can hybridize. Scientists come up with new info ALL the time which proves and disproves a bunch of things. I remember seeing something on CNN a while ago I think where scientists are now saying that we're more closely related to dogs than we are to chimps.

Just like politicians, you cannot believe a lot of scientists. The idea of humans being closely related to dogs rather them chimps is bogas,

Well this proves your post wrong benifica.

Horses have 64 chromosomes and donkeys have 62 yet they can hybridize and creat a mule...apperently mules maybe able reproduce.

Mourinho18

we're also closely related to pigs. In fact, studies done, don't know where, say that human and pig flesh taste the same .

But what I'm trying to say with chimps and humans is that we are really different from one another. You can say that we have 98% of the same makeup, but that remaining 2% leaves a lot open.

Today, scientists believe that the most recent common ancestor lived 6 million years ago. 6 million years is quite a long period of time to be seperated from our closest relative.

Your post makes be wonder though, what are the chromosome count for the various fish that have been hybridized? Like convicts, Midas, firemouth, severums etc.

I think that opens up for some more research to be done :D

I'm not done yet man.

The reason why donkey's and horses can hybridize even though they do not have the same number of chromosomes is that they are so closely related to one another.

Let's take a look at the scientific name, a horse is Equus caballus and the Donkey is Equus asinus. They are equal animals from kingdom down to genus in scientific identification. They are already incredibly closely related, and although they are a different species, they can still reproduce.

Humans and chimps on the other hand stop being related at their order, because they are both primates. Chimps aren't even classified as having the same genus as us which is HOMO. :) We're similar to them, but oh so very different. If you show me clear cut proof that it is possible that humans and chimps can create offspring, then i'll give you a pat on the back or something.

I already know about the scientific classifican stuff but just because some scientists put them in a different genus does not mean we are not closely realted. Classification has a lot of flaws, you should know this...look how often they change the latin names of fish. In the last four years I have seen convicts go from cichlasoma, archocentus, hericthys and cynotilapia. It has been talked about by many scientists that humans and chimps belong in the same genus. The reason why knowone has changed it is because of the controversy it would create have two human species. Chimpanzees are currently classified within the same family as gorillas and orangutans but this is flawed because chimpanzees are actually more closely realted to humans then they are to the other two primates...does this make sense?

Chimps are human, gene study implies

not to turn this into a political debate... but anyone who has legitimately graduated from high school or even had a college course of any kind knows to look at the source before they even look at the content... you just quoted creationscience.org... sorry but this reeks of republican (scratch that) George Bush paid science if you want to you can skew any type of experiment or even any set of data to say whatever you want it to...
