well, I'm not absolutely sure, but I would say crenicichla xingu 1. . Theyre probably the most common pike you'll find at a LFS. Anybody else wanna take a stab at this.

the xingu 1 get to be about 12 inches or so from what I've looked up. How big of a tank do you have this guy in and what tankmates does he have.

your definetely overstocked man. sorry to say that, but a 55 isnt enough to hold all three of those guys. Hate to be the bearer of bad news. I'm really not sure about your pike though. Peanut power will def. help you out better there, but in the meantime, you should think about getting rid of 2 of those 3 guys.

 , check this later because peanut power will def. give you a confirmation on the type of pike that you have.
Where is Peanut_Power? He will know.. I have seen this pike also labelled as Crenichla 'Bellyhopper' as they usually lay around and hop along the bottom of the tank? There is one at my LFS, I was half tempted to purchase it.. but I have pikes..

That's not overstocked as long as the red devil and oscar are juveniles. The tank is definitely not a long term solution, though.

Your fish is a Crenicichla sp. bellycrawler. This is a Columbian pike, one of the most frequently seen pikes for sale in the U.S. Even so, it is not formally described in the scientific literature, hence "bellycrawler" instead of a true species name. If your pike has the red sides and dorsal ocellus that you described, it is a female. These fish can be pugnacious. Although texts describe them as getting larger, I've really never seen a female larger than yours. They seem to be slow-growing, for pikes. The males will get larger than that, though.

Xingu I? LOL!! Oh man...that made me laugh when i read that bro....i need to educate you. It looks more like Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela' than it does xingu I...goober. Nadus is totally right. Definately Crenicichla sp. 'bellycrawler'...he took away all the fun from me...lol...definately sounds like a female too. Great pikes...get a bit large...my male after several years was pushin 8"....easily...:D

Thanks, PP. You know I love my acutirostris. I lost one of my six marmorata during a week-long power outage (courtesy of Hurricane Katrina). Otherwise they are doing great. I haven't heard anything about your three, lately.

LOL!! nice! I totally forgot that you got some marms from the same batch i got mine from Rapps! Did you also know that they aren't marmoratas?! At least mine aren't turnin out that way. I'll have to get you some pictures, but i haven't been able to ID them yet. They are starting to go through their color changes right now though, so soon...hopefully very soon i will be able to. Rapps actually thinks they are Crenicichla sp. 'xingu II'...lol...how kewl is that eh? WOOT! If you got urs from the same batch i got mine that means urs are also xingu II! Haha.....yup yup....
