My suggestion for next raffle is a large Royal Panaque OR a Parapteronotus hasemani (formerly Apteronotus anas(Duck Knife)here is picture of a Parapteronotus hasemani

how rare are those duck knives.. I saw one last weekend at a fish store in the same tank with a tiger ray.. Not a big tank either probably a 55 gallon.. The tip of the knife's tail was all chewed up and I actually saw the ray bite him while I was there..

That would make a nice addition to any aquarium. Good suggestion.

think 40 gallons is a wee bit small for monster fish :D

It surprises me how much everyone is concerned about the next raffle. While I think it is great that they have these raffles, there is a lot more to this site than just the raffles. Whatever they decide to give away next, if anything, we should all be happy just to have the opportunity to participate.

i agree with the comments about the usefullness of this site besides freebies...but, i also feel that the raffle thing (with the post-count requirement) is a good way to "reward" those who are frequent users and do disseminate valuable info here...

i second the altum angels idea for consoderation, for the record....

On the next import, we've decided to set-aside some fish for the next raffle. Currently we are re-modeling our facility, and looking to open retail, so things are hectic. It does not look like we will be importing again until the end of this month, or the very beginning of next month, so we could likely sponsor the November raffle..

Here is a list of what I can try to get.. These are 'rare' and popular fish that pop into my head..

Tigrinus Cat(4-8")
Flash Juruense Cat(10-12")
Lince Cat (XL)
Ornate Pims (6 pcs)
Achara Cat (XL)
P. Niger (XL)
'Trachy Trachy'
Electric Eel (XL)
Swamp Eel (XL)
S.A. Lungfish (XL)
Stingrays (Many choices)
Flash Zebra Knife (6-10")
Black Ghost Knife (6-10")
Elephant-Nose Knife (?)
White Knife (No guarantees.)
Leaf Fish (6 pcs)
Rainbow Wolf
Wild Oscars (3 juvies?)
Cincta Pike Cichlids (6- Breeding Group)
Red-Neck Severums (4" Pair)
Royal Pleco (XL)
Any XL Rare Pleco
Yellow-Tail Barracuda (6")
Sabre-Tooth Tetra (6")

I would say we could do have a vote, and the top 2 could be a 'choice' system if they win.. We could also work something out where if you would like to 'trade-down' for something that is listed as less expensive, it could be no problem. This would accomodate everyones tank sizes, and preferences..

My picks would be:

MFK'ers: Motoro/Motoro Peru Stingray
Oddballers: Flash Zebra Knife
Cichlidiods: Cincta Pike (Breeding Group)
Plecofans: XL Rare Pleco/Royal Pleco
Predators: Rainbow Wolf

Go miles. Great slection. With rays what if they are illegal in there state and they win???

I would vote for the motoro stingray, but they are illegal in cali.

Considering that i cast my vote for XL Pleco, the tig, or Rainbow wolf.

Howdy,

I was referring to your brilliant suggestion (quote) "A reallly really nice one for members over 1000 or 1500 posts...kinda like a special THANK YOU for contributin so much....and a raffle for everyone over 150 to 300 posts...." . Dude, I an still trying to reach the 100 posts threshold, now you suggest 150 or even 1000 :screwy: . That's why I want you to :lipsseale Regarding your pike wish, I am very tolerant - as long as the zebra knife wins the vote :grinyes:

You know what, I figured it out: You just want to read more of my posts and encourage me to write a lot. ;) I'll try

Thats already been thought of...they have a spam/post whore filter that regulates how they count your posts...;). Not that any of the above suggestions are bad, or saying that the current system is flawed in any way.... Just a few suggestions.

Idea #1

How about a gift certificate to one of our online partners?

Instead of us Canadians and other internationals not being able to jump on whatever fish is offered for sale, perhaps we can get a non-transferable gift certificate to somoene that will ship internationally (like Rapps).

That way, we can get the knife, or the pike, or whatever else a person wants.

Idea #2

Perhaps offer a 'showcase' rewards package. One of the local radio stations does it here. This is how it works:

There are 6 'Showcase' prizes. There is only 1 winner, and he gets to choose 1 of 6 prizes. Line up 6 of our advertisers (or anyone else who wants to donate). Seems to work really well.

Idea #3

As for raffling it off...how about this. To make it a bit more 'fair' instead of having a time limit and making poor Ming sit on the computer all day saying 'you got it', etc., make it an activity based event.

This is all tied in with Idea 2, but can run independently..

Every member on MFK will get a 'points accouint'. How about 1 point for every post (that doesn't get deleted for abuse!). MFK will put up temporary posts with a 'password code' worth 10 pts (only good for however The Trust wants to stay online checking for - thread is then deleted). To tie our sponsors in that much more, we can have them 'hide' a password somewhere on their site and if you find it, you come back and 'PM' The Trust or Neo and they will credit your account 100 pts.

You then use the points to 'buy' your entries in raffles or perhaps even purchase items directly through MFK (though what I don't know).

Just a few ideas since we seem to be brainstorming here..

All these are being done, it just depends on what is being donated. So far the prizes have mainly been fish but a Fluval 404 filter was offered as well as credit with several sponsors.
