:nilly: okay 2 of my 3 temensis are acting funny now....seems like they are getting what my mono got...breathing heavily, sometimes going to the top of the tank like gasping for air then sinking to the bottom just hovering there, not eating,.. and one of them has redening on the outside of the gill..not sure if another fish caused that...also the temensis that is acing normal has been chasing the other two around ramming them so i dont know if he ruptured something...the tem that was punking the others is doing fine and still eating vigorously ( and chasing the other two). I did a water change, added salt, and raised the temp to 86....what else could i do?? :nilly:

add air?

Seems to be enough air....on one end is a powerhead and in the middle is the outflow of the canister filter....only place there is a small amount of bubbles is on the right side where the intake for the cansiter is....i could add an HOB filter....

is there a lot of surface agitation?

is there a lot of surface agitation?

what exactly do you mean?

is there anything breaking the surface of the water? Water, air, filter?

oh duh...yea water, the outflow from the canister filter and thats about it...i raised it so that it splashes and creates air bubbles....thats about it...

I think they are blind...i have no idea how that would happen...they keep swimming around bumping into things then once they hit something they turn around and swim the other way til they hit something else...this happened to one of my monos....what could it be???!!!

i JUST lost my 2 mono's..literally..like 2 minutes ago..they showed the same symptoms...

what are you water parameters? and what are you feeding them?

I would add more air. It's strange that the one is still fine but when this happens usually the water doesn;t have enough o2 in it and you need more surface agitation.. so make sure your water level is low enough that your filter is making agitation.

Ok just lowered the water so the powerhead is above it and the filter is splashing even more...honestly i dont think the two are going to make it....one of them has some white stuff on the gill now and both have reddening on the base of the fin behind the gil...almost looks bloody...the one tem is still fine though and all the other fish...oh and also the eyes look kinda sunken in...help please!!

sounds like a mix of extreme lack of oxygen, an extreme amount of ammonia. How long ago was the last water change before this, and did you remember to use water conditioner?

i think it might have been the oxygen thing...last water change was about a week and a half ago.....yea i also used water conditioner...Can they recover from this???

It depends on how long you let them go before working on it. I would do another water change, add an airstone, and make sure your aren't whipping the surface into a crazy tornado which could stress the fish.

essentially not a whole lot I don't think.. I've had similar problems when overdosing meds in a tank but I quickly resolved it at the first signs of a problem.
