No Cichla will survive! So don't even think about bringing any cichla you catch. After hooking them just transporting them is enough to kill them.
If you plan to bring back fish the best bet for fish that can be shipped is Jags, Mayans, Midas and Tilipias.
Only reason I was able to bring some back was because:
1.) I am experienced in shipping and packing big fish
2.) The fish I took back were not freshly caught. They were given to me after being kept in tanks for a month or so.
3.) The fish I shipped back were only 10" and below. 95% of the Cichla you catch there is in the 12"+++ range. Bad bad bad shippers.
So do the Cichla a favor and catch and release them.

Nope Anyone below 21 must have a parent/guardian present.
18 is not enough since the consumption of alcohol may be involved with other members older than 21 and if other members who are present that are not 21 may pose an issue.
Anyone under 21 needs to bring a signed letter that is notraized.

Id imagine 18 would be the age requirement since that is recognized as the legal transition age from juvenile to adulthood so why wouldn't any persons under 21 be permitted to come? I mean I don't have a problem with it since I'll just drive down there on my own and meet up with you guys, then party it off somewhere haha.

So wait that means you can go if your under 21 without a parent if they sign a waiver? Or did I just read this wrong?

Jed 18 is the legal age.......if you decide to make it 21 then it would be considered discrimination, if you wanted to get into the legality of it all. You dont need to have a lawyer to have a legal binding contract. Just the descritpion and any stipulations would have to be expressed on the paper.....IE we will not be responsible this and that mumbo jumbo. They will sign it and they will be held responsible for their actions, which would in turn alleviate the members that will be there from all responsibility. Anyone under 18 will however need a guardian because juvenile laws are different then after 18. I dont think it will be such an issue. If youre 18 and want to come sure go ahead, but youll need your own transportation as we will not able to provide a carpool service for everyone. You will be responsible for your actions whether you were out with us as a group or individually and you will sign a waiver of all liability when you get there simple as that.

I agree. Again not to offend people but we are not there to babysit. Last thing everyone needs is a parent dropping their minor off saying "You guys better keep an eye on him or else..." and "you guys have to drop him off by...." and "he can't drive yet so you guys will have to bring him home."
These are some of the complications having minors along during a trip.
You can't blame your parents for not wanting you to go. I'm a parent too and I'd be worried for my child as well.

In your eyes, how is a person mature, By knowledge, age, what?
I'm 16 and who will stop me if I drive to miami to fish without a parent? I understand that hanging out with kids younger than you, can tend to be annoying. But there are plenty of teens out there who are a hell of alot more mature than you.

Dude take your pick on the beaches. Thats a BIG NO PROBLEM.....you can rent a car if you dont mind paying the underage fee which is 12/ a day, but if youre there for a weekend it wont put a huge dent in your wallet. I can hook you up with the rental as I do every year for those members who qualify for the rental car.

Rules are made for reasons and if you cant follow the rules then you cant fish with us. This is an association and it has rules and you as member when you pressed the little box when you signed up agreed to abide them. I think this includes any extra activities outside of the boards. If youre 21 and above I can get you a car, but again the underage driver fee. It will cost 12/ day on top of the rental rate and if you decide to take collision (which i recommend for s fl) I dont work for them, but I got a hook up. It shouldnt cost more than 150 bucks for the weekend for a regular car. But with the plane ticket and all it depends which way you want to do it. Just let me know i will be making reservations for everyone that wants a car.

Can you pick any fighting words from my post? I reffered to you as a smartass because thats exactly what youre doing as you did in this post by using the word immature. If you dont plan on coming then why are you making such a big deal about the rules set in place for the younger members safety? You think its funny to make a mochery of things that could potentially be harmful for you and your peers (if you decided to come)? Please stop derailing the thread with smart ass comments as they do no good. This is being done for the safety of the parents, the younger members, and MFK members that will be on this trip.

Thats exactly the point, but we have some people in the forum that wont or dont want to comprehend that.

Exactly. You guys are taking it way too personally. No one minds people who are underage, people do mind being liable and legally responsible for another person or a bunch of other people.
That's all I'll say but milk/others if you have a problem with that taking it to pm's or starting another thread would be better because you're derailing this.

I'm more worried about the people 21 and over, rather than the young kids. If something happens to anyone under 21, li and var will be held responsible.
My parents dont care if I go, I've made 2 trips to miami to fish myself, they are used to my fishing trips. But, i dont want li getting introuble with the law Thats why I'm trying to help li, and var to think of all the possible actions they can take, to prevent something happening.

I have no beef with you Andr3w trust me, I can actually admire you trying to get your mom to let you go. It speaks highly of you trying to do everything by the book. Making threats about coming alone without regards to the rules however doesnt fly, because of the elements involved (younger people). We really want to avoid any problems and thats why we are being hard press on these rules (safety first).

No.. Wrong.. That's why if you're under 21 you have to bring a guardian so then that person is liable for you. If you're older than 21 and do something stupid the law looks at is as you should have known better so it's no concern.

Those 21 and over are responsible for their actions (18 and over for that matter) Its the law...youre considered by book definition an adult. If anyone 18 and over comes we are free of liability. Those who are younger than 18 will need a parent present so therefore the parent is liable. This is why we made these rules to relieve us of any and all liabilities. I know some of us have folks that completely trust us. I was fortunate to have parents like that, but the rules are there and no exceptions will be made no matter how trusting parents are and how many times youve gone out unsupervised.

I'm interested in going - but I may need to leave early for school, depending on when it is. I am 30, no worries there.
I will be taking my own car, and I do not have a desire to spend $1,000 to $1,500 for hotel fees, etc. I'd like info about a less expensive place to stay, as well as the area we will be in, so that I can join you guys (if possible) and leave when I need to.
Thanks

There are quite a few good deals if you go to hotels.com or something like that. August in S Fl will not be as expensive for those sort of things as it is in the winter months. People escape our heat in the summer and come for our heat in the winter.

Why don't u start a MFK Minor's Trip! 17 and under only. Next thing you know you'll have 5 year olds wanting to come.
Then they will say. I'm, responsible enough that I can go pee on my own and don't need adults to cross the road too. I always remember to looks both ways before crossing.
It's plain and simple ask a Parent or guardian to come along that's all the adults in the trip ask. I don't see why so much drama over a simple request the adults have made.
I mean after all the fuss you're creating I don't think people on the trip would even want to go fishing with you.

Try to imagine parents of any underage participants receiving a letter like the following:
Dear Parents,
Our FishMaster told us to write to our parents in case you saw
the flood on TV and were worried. We are OK. Only one of us got his gear washed away. Luckily, none of us got drowned because we were all in the Everglades looking for Chad when it happened.
Oh yes, please call Chad's mother and tell her he is OK. He can't write
because of the cast. I got to ride in one of the search and rescue
jeeps. It was neat. We never would have found him in the dark if it
wasn't for the lightning.
Fishmaster Li got mad at Chad for going on fishing alone in the Everglades without telling anyone. Chad said he did tell him, but it was during the fire so he probably didn't hear him. Did you know that if you put gas on a fire, the gas can will blow up? The wet ponchos didn't burn, but someone's boat did. Also some of our clothes. John is going to look weird until his hair grows back.
We will be home Next week if FishMaster Li gets the car fixed.
It wasn't his fault about the wreck. The brakes worked OK when we left the hotel. FishMaster Li said that with a car that old you have to expect something to break down, that's probably why he can't get insurance. We think it's a neat car. He doesn't care if we get it dirty, and if it's hot, sometimes he lets us ride on the fenders. It gets pretty hot with 10 people in the car. He let us take turns riding in the trailer until the highway patrolman stopped and talked to us.
FishMaster Li is a neat guy. Don't worry, he is a good driver.
In fact, he is teaching Terry how to drive on the Everglades trails where
there isn't any traffic. All we ever see up here are huge trucks hauling gravel.
This morning, all of the guys were diving off the bridge and
swimming out in the lake. FishMaster Li wouldn't let me because I
can't swim, and Chad was afraid he would sink because of his cast, so he
let us take the canoe across the lake. It was great. You can still see
some of the trees under the water from the flood. FishMaster Li isn't
crabby like some FishMasters. He didn't even get mad about us leaving
the lifejackets. He has to spend a lot of time working on the car so we
are trying not to cause him any trouble.
Guess what? We have all caught our first Peacock Bass. When
Dave dove in the lake and cut his arm, we got to see how a fishing line can be used as a tourniquet.
Wade and I threw up, but FishMaster Li said it probably was just food poisoning from the leftover chicken. He said they got sick that way with food they ate in prison. I'm so glad he got out and became our FishMaster.
I have to go now. We are going to town to mail our letters and buy
bullets. Don't worry about anything. We are fine.

This is getting way out of hand for a trip that over a year away. If you're under 18 rules are rules, if you're over you need not worry. Why is that so hard to understand ?...for those under 18, you have a whole year to get an adult to come down with you, I say you redirect the energy you are wasting on this thread and start getting to work on Mom and Dad ;)

I'm thinkin' they would liven up this trip a little.
(Oh, and by the way V... Best day ever fishing was with a kid not an adult)
Does sound like fun tho..I don't have any warrants in those cities (anymore)
(Please don't let my wife see this, she goes into such detail with her stories).
P.S. Have you guys been here in August?! (We stay indoors from July thru mid September.

We know youre old enough....anyone that has the ability to speak is old enough to say shut up.....what I was referring to was your lack of maturity and with that lack of maturity shows us all why kids need to be supervised. I cant imagine what a fishing trip with a bunch of unsupervised 13-17 year would be like. :nilly:
Hey 17 year olds are just as responsible as 18 year olds or even 21 year olds. I might go, my family and I have a time share and we are there the 18 to the 25th I think. What kind of fishing would it be? Some saltwater?

So, did this trip ever happen, or is this the one that is now September. I'm down for Sept. I have a Bucs game on the 16th, but am free after that weekend.
