Nice work on the POTM bro gr8! It's good to see this going again, and now much more organized than ever (no offense to the previous organizer(s)).
I especially like the winners' photo album that you've created. Why not backtrack and update it with all the previous POTM winners?

Thanks to everybody that voted & MFK.I was a big fan of No 18 & 31 so good job there guys
Just a bit about the image it was a frozen mouse that was put in there for my Asian aro (RTG).The gars got to play with it first for 5 mins or so before the aro snapped it up missed that shot.I do not feed my aro mice it was a one off thing or two :D.
Cyclop3000 You asked
{So the owner of those Gars, can you please speak up and let me know which specie they are?}
I felt as it was a competition I should stay anonymous till the end.
They are Florida Gars
Thanks

The pix was a winner from the onset. That, and the fact that I did not compete (lol) killed the competition....

SICK!
That was the intention of the shot :headbang2
But if you think fish do not eat this type of food in the wild think again.
I have seen a Saratoga on the Marry river eat small bird's.I was fishing when I notice a baby bird fall from a nest. Before I could move the boat over to scoop the bird up a big Saratoga snapped it up.I was so surprised at the speed in which the Saratoga took the bird it had only just hit the water.
I tried to shake the remaining bird from the nest so I could use it as bait :WHOA:
Just joking I tried to save the birds life but the Saratoga was to fast.
The marry river is about 150km east of Darwin in NT Australia.
As I stated before I do not feed my fish mice it was just a one off thing for the camera.

Seen a LMB eat a squirrel that fell in the water once. Was kinda strange and funny at the same time. Fed my catfish some worm snakes before when I lived in North Carolina. Good pic.
A high quality picture, for sure, but a nasty shot, sorry to see it win. It's not a good or accurate image for this site because it suggests that the membership is a bunch of extremists who get a kick out of feeding mice and rats to their fish when in fact most of us (I think) just like to keep BIG interesting fish in big tanks. I don't think more than a very small percentage of the membership feed their fish mice/rats/other mammals, etc. Maybe I'm wrong. Just my $.02.

I dont think that it reflects on the majority of this community. Most people here know that the majority of the MFK community IMO does not practice this type of fish keeping. I think that people are adult enough to know that there is a difference between voting for a picture and actually practicing what the picture includes.
You're probably right, but if a non-member saw that picture as he/she perused the site...
If my wife saw that pic, she would certainly think I'm subscribed to some sort of sick cruelty-to-animals website. (Admitedly, she is a bit weak in the knees for this sort of stuff, but you get the idea...).
It's just a bit over the top, IMHO. :)

It a nice shot and i give my congrates....
i dont think that it shouldnt of had any less votes due to content, nature is not rated PG either.
I believe if a new member saw that and came to MFK due to pic he or she whould leave also very shortly afterwards, learning quickly thats not what were are about.
Animal cruelty? far from it, I could understand if someone feed a kitten to an ARO....but a mouse? is a feeder to a snake! the same as a golf fish is a feeder to an Oscar!...True some ppl keep mice and some ppl keep gold fish but i have seen koi eat gold fish...! Animal is an Animal they dont know cruelty and altho they do reflect there owners. The diffinative line comes down to general socity and what it accepts as wrong or right. In general, a mouse is a pest and terminx is more cruel then the winning photo...
and like i stated if i posted a pic with an aro eating a cat...Generaly, i would have millions of ppl chasing me with bats...lol

Did you miss my first post it was a frozen mouse were is the cruelty in that or is it ok for me to feed a snake with it but not a fish :screwy:
If it was one of those videos showing a mouse swimming around while a school of piranha's slowly picked it off ok you would have a point. But it is not so :chillpill: have you hugged a tree lately :D

But it did win a contest based on a voting system.
Did it win from the most votes because of the "quality" of the photo, or by the "shock" value ?
He did state that it was a "one off" shot for the camera, leading me to think it was done for the "shock" value to win, with photo quality as an afterthought.
Congrats on the win.

I don't hide the fact that this shot was entered for the shock value :WHOA: & not it's photo quality.
I do not classify this shot as a good image in the art of photography skill as I do some of my other work (gallery) .But I new it would do well in the POTM contest on its shock value alone.
Thx

Thanks Rat, that's exactly my point.
It was done as a way (hopefully) to win a contest.
I don't think that portrays the fact that we (collectively speaking) practice this on a daily basis.
Some might, and some might just indulge in the fact that others do, and voice their opinions by voting, thus living vicariously through others who take the "heat" afterwards.
If a new comer to the site bases their judgment on this one "contest" without viewing other threads where there is a wealth of good sound info./advice, they probably don't have much to offer anyway.
I don't see the difference in feeding a mouse to a fish or a snake, it just so happens that snakes don't eat fish food, whereas some fish eat "snake food".
Nobody seems to object when we feed ourselves with cows, even though they are considered sacred in some countries.
Some others cultures eat cats and dogs and lizards and grubs and , and, and, ..... etc.
I personally would want to win a photo contest based on the quality of the shot, not because people think the subject or situation is just a "cool" thing.
That's only my opinion obviously, and others have theirs. I'm not right or wrong any more than they are.
There is a thing called "agree to disagree" that works well if both sides "agree".
If everything was cut and dry/black and white, we would all be the same.
Where's the fun in that ?? :) :) :)
