Last Saturday my wife and I went to Whities Pets 'Sale of the Century' celebrating 60 years of a family owned pet store and bought a 150g tank. The price was fine, but we did'nt like the stand or canopy (natch).
Sunday morn I called my buddy Allan (he's in the white shirt) to pick his brain about a heavy stand structure and he came over and we started. All the material came from construction sites around here and I had plenty of it. We used 2x6's for the footprint, 2x4's for the top and sides, full dimension redwood 4x4's for the posts and tongue and groove planking for the siding. A 6' long powerstrip a customer gave me is installed inside. Access, as you can see, is by 2 removable panels on the front. One coat of Ipswich Pine stain and 2 coats of semi- gloss poly was all it needed. I could park my truck on this baby! While it sat on the sawhorses we affectionately nicknamed it 'The Coffin" ( it almost became one after we moved the tank onto it on Wednesday).

Ahhhhh... The perks of knowing how to work with your hands. I though working construction sucks (it does), but I can build just about anything now.

Oh, btw, The cost of your friendship is about $70. Isn't that a little steep? J/K
Very nice stand. Can't say I've seen a nicer one in stores. Good Job Buddy.

The stand looks beautiful. Now do yourself a favor and put an opaque backing to the tank or you'll be cursing up a storm over algae scraping.

Don't worry. There won't be an algae problem.
