I snagged a 55g for $50 with the idea for my new birthday present, a tank head board in the bed room! (hay, a fish head )'> fish head board):D

First the sales pitch to the wife. drawings and romancing the stand of how nice an 8 foot stand would look holding her alarm clock!
second, the cost... practically nothing. I will use the scrap wood from the redecoration project of our sons room.
third, we need to do our bedroom---get rid of of the sterile white walls.
SOLD!!!!!

4 coats of flat black paint on the back the tank.
bag of pool filter crushed quartz.
add water from the water changes from the other 8 tanks in the house.

Man !!! what a great idea !!! Excellent!! Built in reading/night light and all.
Got to try this out here at the home, though I'd opt for a 125 without the side cabinets.
My wife's a damn bedhog, so I need the extra width. :D :D :D
I'm in.

Damn does that alarm clock look good!
I took the fluval 404 that was running a 36g tank, (long story.....found on different thread.) put in door on the left which is totally walled with acustic foam. It is dead quiet! Even better than I theorized in the sales pitch. You can't hear it even if you listen for it!

Right now the walls and the stand are just primer. next is the sides and hood. than paint. We are debating colors.
Right now the only fish in the tank are my wives favorites the geo and frontosa. (part of the sales pitch agreement)

Very cool, when I was a kid I had a 55g as a headboard on my super single water bed. Worked great cause the bed was 4 foot wide.

Yours is gonna look real nice when you get done, post some pics and maybe I can convince my wife to let me do the same.

I really have to think about it. I really like the Geos. This will take much thought.

Today was a beautiful day. I did some more work on the sides while the kids were in the pool. Got a nice sun burn to start the summer off right.

I typically like a lot of rock work in my tanks. But there is something about the zen-like quality of just the lone piece of drift wood for this bedroom setting. I think I am going to leave it as done. Just a few more fish, of course.

Add live plants.

Its ALOT more relaxing with plants. Cause the bright green colors are warming and refreshing to look at.

Great idea man i was thinking of doing the same thing with a 6 foot tank to my queen size bed i love tanks in the bedroom. When my jardini was small i had him in a 55 that i put on top of one of my dresser at the end wall right by my bed and i used it as a reading light and a night light all the time. Any ways good luck and it looks great.

I got the purely cosmetic hood made today. I'll get to priming after picking up some more corner molding. Still need to choose bedroom paint colors.
I am going to use Derpeder's idea on the doors. His is more of a skin style over a metal stand. He has done a great job.

Good point in the prior post: Are those GFIs? If not, it's worth putting them in.

PS I proposed a similar idea to my wife and she told me, "No f***ing way!"

Hey you are going to have to write up some pointers for us married folk to convince the wives.

My last tank purchase was met with much distain. And I even sold one of my tanks to buy the new one. Well other way around. Bought the new one then sold the old one.

Good point in the prior post: Are those GFIs? If not, it's worth putting them in.

Thanks. Safety first. The whole stand goes through a GFCI first. All things down line (load side) are than protected by the GFCI.

Hey you are going to have to write up some pointers for us married folk to convince the wives.
For me, it was for her to finally get me to do our room. The walls were still white from being brand new. BTW: We decided on colors and I bought the paint --- "bear rug" and "Tofee" BS something. ---will be starting this week.
The night stand has all the handy outlets for cells phones for night time docking and alarm clocks, glowing night-light dimmer switch for lighting and storage for massage oils, etc. It helped that I used almost all material from scraps/overruns of other projects. I think I only had to buy some of the molding.
We always have had just plain night stands next to the bed. This was just purely custom for her.;) I brought in her favorite fish which I told her was perfect for the the bedroom because unlike the peacocks and mbuna they are very laid back fish. It does help if they like the fish tanks and that they at least THINK that you spend more time with her than the fish.

LOL......so true. I do like hearing, "Wow hun this tank really does look great." after i get it set up.

That keeps my hope alive.

Looking forward to the newest pics!!

Finally got some color in our room. The walls are textured----- and with the dark brown paint, makes the walls look like leather. It has really come together quickly. I used the flat black paint that I used for the back of the fish tank to paint the insides of the side units. A nice detail. I still have the doors to deal with and details like cord screens to hide wires better, and a few more pieces of molding. Also have three other walls to paint in the room. (5 coats for the process.:irked: )

Will continue to up date. My wife said tonight:"Oh, you're taking pictures to show your friends on Monster Fish Keepers!"

Yep.:D

Mr. Geo died and so I had some thinkin' to do. I removed the 20+ mbuna from my 125g and moved them into the bed room. Now there is a lot more action happening in the bedroom. ....er, well.... you know what I meant. (the fish).:D
This also gives me a 125g just peacock tank to play with. Anyone want to go the fish store with me?

Did not paint the wood trim on the tank yet...but I did get rid of the comforter!

I had the lone Geo in there waiting for any of the LSF to come up with more South American eartheaters, but with no luck. And the Front in there because of his laid back temperament at food time against the mbuna. The Geo just plain died. The Front does play nice with the other fish, so he is back with the big boys in the 125g.

I love the idea...If and when I get my own home I'd serious consider putting my 55 gal behind my bed as it houses clown plecos that are active at night. I'd love to fall asleep watching my plecos.

Looks sweet !!!! Two questions.

1. Does the running water give you the urge to go pee?

2. Do you splash water out of the tank when a game of Bedroom Golf gets wild and crazy?

There is NO noise at all. I have a Fluval 404 canister running underneath in the cabinet that is fully lined with acoustic foam. It is much quieter than anticipated. :)

The bed is not attached to the cabinet. --part of the well thought out design. A special foam was used as a buffer that was invented by NASA and Huge Hefner :D ;)
