about a week ago i posted a thing about a thinbar, well he died on monday so i got a new one today. the person said it was in brackish and i know it wasnt supposed to so i am in the process of bring it back. i did add a little aquarium salt to help him feel better.
pics of the converting. now he is in the 5 gallon bucket not the magnum filter, but while in the magnum filter he ate a guppy so i guess thats good news.

anyone know a good way to get him to eat prawns/shrimp?
he wouldnt eat that so i feed him some feeders and it was the coolest thing ever.
i will try bloodworms and krill tomorrow if he didnt eat off the rest of the feeders

Can't really see the fish. Depending on the variation of thin bars. Some will eat MP right away, and some will take forever to train to eat.

RIP to the old dat.
Try starving it a couple days and throw in dried krills, then see if it will charge up and snatch it. If it does, it's a good sign.

should i do dry krill or frozen shrimp?

Do frozen shrimp if the tank has other tankmates that will go after it. It will realize that it's food. The risk about frozen shrimp at first is it sinks and the thin bar will lose absolute interest if the shrimp made it to the ground. You want the thin bar to get it while it's sinking.
Dried krill has a higher success rate in the beginning for thin bar IMO. It stays on top of the water to tempt the thin bar to get it. When the thin bar is hungry enough it will dash for it.

man it takes forever to train 3-4" thin bars to eat anything but feeders. i starved my 3 thin bars for 3 weeks and they started to eat blood worms (that i was using to feed my indos). i wanted them to eat MP, but they still didnt ignored it and ate super small portions of blood worms. so i gave up and sold them.

try soaking the dry krill so that it very slowly sinks to the bottom. tnat way it mimics semi- live food. it work for my dat.

Ya, dats love freeze dried krill. Soak it in a small glass with some tank water to soften it up first.

I was always the assumption that if a fish comes from brackish water... then regular aquarium wont do a thing to raise the salinity. You have to get a reliable hydrometer and some Marine salt and mix to a specific gravity (SG) necessary for the fish. I havent ever kept Dats or anything brackish- I was looking into it awhile back before going another route.

did the dat die? i took 6 hours to get him used to the tank water. now he is fine and has colored up a bit until he sees me. I am guessing the water is good for him if he has live this long, the other died within 3 days.
do they know the difference between fd krill and frozen?

i dont think anyone would know that....but probably not if they're both soaked for awhile.

yeah....if you soak fd krill or shrimp it sticks absolutely horrible after a few hrs...........use frozen and either just throw it in or thaw and pour it in the tank to simulate live food..........my NGT and Indo love it!!!

my thinbar is a little bit scared of the clowns in his tank
some pics of him now
he colors up a lot over light sand, but once he goes back to the black sand he turns dark agian, i added some yellowish sand to where he usually stays to let him color up, but when he goes to that rock thing in the middle of the tank he turns dark again.
he usually looks like this but darker.
