Clown Knife

I got a 5 inch clown Kife at pet supplies pluss for 6 bucks(I couldnt resist :grinyes: ) He is in my 150 with my 5" leichardti arowana, but I havent seen him eat. I feed jumbomin, annd frozen krill, I got him on saturday, and I wouuld think He is hungry. I have done research, but any additional info would be nice.

he can go without food for well over a month. he's more nervous to his surroundings than he is hungry, allow him a few weeks (at least) to acclimate. when he's ready to eat, he will eat. Worrying about it will do neither of you any good.

My clown did sortve the same thing. Trust me on this He'll eat alot once hes comfortable, Id give him a week maybe 2. An try an get some food really close to him, that helped mine start eating.

add some hiding places for him and he will settle down in double quick time

yea.... these guys layeth the smackdown like no other when it comes to a piece of prime driftwood.

my former one speared my spotted gar for getting in between him and a pvc pipe i was using for shelter

they tend to feed at night as well so try shutting down the lights, but i agree with everyone else give him a bit to adjust and a hiding spot.

My clown knife was really shy at first, but if you throw food in right in front of his face he will get the idea that you arent all bad. And they do need a place to hide.

haha so far Ive witnessed mine go psycho on every fish in the tank except my Aro.

Try placing frozen misis shimp close to him, i found with mine he would take that over anything even when he was nervous and not eating, reducing the lights for a while helps too.

mine would eat some flakes and shrimp pellets but prefered feeder guppies and as he got larger goldfish

i feed my royal clown knife freeze dried shrimp, new life spectrum brand pellets, hikari brand pellets, earth worms, crickets, live "pinkies" baby mice, quarantined live feeder fish on occasion and more as treats ;)

Also try feeding him frozen blood worms, my clown knife took then the first day I had him

some info for you like prestated your knife is first nocturnal soo he may feed in dark seting's (dim or no light ) I rarely put the light on in my knife's tank or any other tank I own for that matter.. he may have been rasied on live food worm's/guppy's or tuffy's is your other fish much larger the the knife??? if so he may be scared , scared fish would'nt eat may not hide but will not eat or your tank is not to it's likeing condition's from store tank to your's tank may be differant knife fish smaller then 6'' are delicate fish !!... :thumbsup: :cheers:

ya they can definitly go a while without food, i would try maybe some bloodworms, i got my 16" clown on all frozen (silversides,krill,prawn,and fresh fish from the market) i also took the top half of a fishing pole apart and cut off the eyes on it and i use it to target feed him otherwise the oscars, jardini, and florida would steal his food.
