Is that really a sauger and not a walleye?! If so that is HUGE!! What is your state record sauger?

It does appear to be a suager. But wouldnt' be able to tell unless i seen the dorsal fin. However i have caught several suager over 24in on occasion.

Its a sauger...no white tip on the tail! Nice size fish too!

Nice catch! I don't see them that chubby up around here.. Really? We usually hit the walleyes and Sauger pretty hard up at whitehall and thats pretty much the average size for the Eyes and Sauger

The white tip on the tail isn't always a a for sure way to tell the two apart. Sauger sometimes have the white tip but of course it generally as white as the tip on a walleye. A more definate way of telling the two apart is by the dorsal fin. Walleye have a solid colored dorsal while the sauger's is is transparent with black spots. The really hard ones to tell apart are the saugeye they can have pretty much any combanation of the two parents charactaristics
