I was at a LFS that had puffers labled as fugu puffers.....the only thing i know is that they looked awesome. they were a dark color with really bright orange patterns on them. How big of a tank do I need to keep one, how do I set up that tank, and how do you care for these fish. Ive never done a serious brackish tank before so a step by step would be nice! thanks in advance

I wont be going down that road then...What kind of puffers would everyone suggest for a 20 tall, and how should I set it up? im new to anything that has salt./ I was thinking a couple dwarf puffers and some mollies.

Try a Bronze Puffer...also known as an Avocado Puffer. My roommate used to have one and it was definitely a cool fish with lots of personality.

If you want completely freshwater, don't get Figure 8 Puffers, Green Spotted Puffers, or Takifugus. If you still want a takifugu, yunachin has one.
Auriglobus Silus.

The bronze puffer = Auriglobus Modestus
The golden puffer = Auriglobus Silus
I've had both.

Yes, but fig8s are brackish. The avocado puffer will need a tank bigger than 20G IMHO, but you can contact PufferPunk . She has one in a 20G.

My roommate had one in a 10g, it was a bit small for it, but it did fine.

DPs are 100% freshwater. I can almost assure you that a true, full grown avocado puffer would not be happy in a 20G.

I have a modestus that is about 5" but it lives in a 20 long. I think a 20 high would not have enough swimming room. How about one of the target species?
Check the Pufferpedia (http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/ug.php/v/PufferPedia/)for more suggestions.

1st of all, the origional poster started this thread in 2005. I'm sure if he was going to get a puffer, he has one by now. 2nd of all, why are you trying to push a puffer on someone that only has a 20g tank, which will eventually need a 600-1,000g tank?
